BLUE'S JOURNEY Blue's Journey is one of the most original NEO-GEO games, although it is easy to finish, there are a lot of secret rooms, special missions, and other different things that you won't find in youy first game. In this file you will see some old tricks, and some new ones. Table of Contents on Blue's Journey: I. The Mushroom houses II. The Secret Rooms III. Finding Mr. NEO-GEO IV. Additional Hints V. Character Statistics I. THE MUSHROOM HOUSES The Mushroom houses, as I call them, are on various levels. They are the little houses with `in' marked on all of them, some are hidden, but most are easy to find. They can hold Money, Information, Help, and other specials. The Jungle of "Jamo" There is only one house in the first section of the game,in this house there is a man who wants to sell you a boat. You really do not need a boat since the vine isn't that hard to cross. However if you do buy a boat, and decide to use it. There will be a Silver Cocoon at the end of your voyage. If you do not buy a boat, you cannot get the silver cocoon. The Lower Earth Empire On the first area of The Lower Earth Empire, there is a man who wants to show you a magic trick for 5 flowers. If you are low on energy then tell him you want to see it, and that you liked it. He will then give you some honey, for more energy. On the second area, there is a travel agent. You may `warp' to either the last area of The Lower Earth Empire, The Empire Marsh, or to Mechanical City. On the third area there is your Rival, Ret, he challanges you to a Leaf Dump contest. Accept his challange (you have nothing to lose) and if you beat him, he gives you a torch. Take this torch to the third area of the Mechanical City and in that house you can rescue a Princess. Empire Marsh On the first area of this level, you meet a man who asks you if you are Blue, answer yes, then he will tell you the name of an old quiz man. Now, remember this name (it is different every time) and you will use it later in the Empire Marsh level. On the second area of this level, you will meet the old man and you can take the quiz. Answer `I got it' and the quiz will begin The first question is "How many questions Have I asked?" Answer 1. Then he'll ask his name, now remember his name from the previous area and answer. You should have passed his quiz and you have a choice of 2 prizes, the first being you can collect UP TO 255 flowers, that doesn't mean you automatically get 255 flowers, just that your flower limit has doubled. The second prize is the best, Whenever you die you never lose ANY flowers. It is your call, but I'd take #2. On the third area of this level, you will meet a card shark, what I mean when I say `shark' is that the odds are against you. The odds of winning are 2-1, but the payoff is 1-1. There is no secret to winning, just luck! Starge Space There is only one house on this whole level, and in it you meet a man who has lost his ax. Well, just walk a little to the left and get it for him, and he will chop down a big tree. Behind the tree is a golden cocoon, but it is invisible, and you must shoot around until it pops up. Mechanical City On the second area of this level, you will find a Derelict all you have to do is keep listening to him, and he will give you a reward. Either a silver cocoon or 30 flowers. On the third level of this level, there is a house, this one is tricky to find, but stay close the bottom and you should have no trouble. If you have the torch you got from Ret, use it on the princess to melt the ice, she will give you a spell that makes you invincible to Nero's (The Purple Wizard) magic. II. THE SECRET ROOMS The first secret room is on the first area of the first level, it isn't hard to find, but don't forget to get the key, or you can't get in. It is a little ditch at the bottom. The Lower Earth Empire On the first area, Right as you pass over the first bridge You will see a stray flower and a hidden entrance, make sure you are small, and jump down there. Empire Marsh On the second area, right after the waterfall, go down deep in water, and you will find a secret area. The third area secret room, is rather hard to explain, and even harder to explain exactly how to get into it, so you will have to use your judgement. I can, however, easily show you where it is (even though you can't get into it this way). The mud cannot kill you, so get in the mud and keep jumping to the right, until you get to a mountain, there you should see it. Starge Space On the first area, right after you face Nero, stand on the sinking iceberg, until you reach the bottom, then jump in the secret passage. On the third level, go underwater and get the key, then touch the ice blocking the small tunnel. Get the second key in the tunnel and go out the other side. Mechanical City On the second area, stick to the ground, and you should see a gap in the solid metal floor. Go down in the gap for the bonus board. On the third area, fall in between two orange conveir belts and you will land right on the secret room. III. Finding Mr. NEO-GEO One of the weirdest experiences I found playing Blue's Journey was finding Mr. NEO-GEO. On the Daruma Empire, area 1. After you cross the hot blue lava. keep going to the right until the floor ends and you are forced to go down. Now get little, jump on the first hovering platform. Now walk off it to the left and keep holding the joystick left, until you go through the invisible wall. Keep going left. This is not the only invisible wall, there are others throughout the game. IV. Additional Hints 1. If you are having trouble beating a boss monster at the end of a level, join in the other player (even if no one is using it). This way you don't have to start over, every time you die. 2. Having trouble getting to a high spot? Use teamwork, jump on the other players head, and jump off. 3. Defeating Ret is sometimes difficult, but the best way I have found is, to jump at him, shoot (while in mid-air), turn back the other way before you hit the ground. Hopefully the wind from the leaf will get him. 4. Shoot around a lot, sometimes hidden items will pop up! 5. The Spike shoes are only good on stages 1 and 3 of Starge Space, other than then, they are a waste of flowers. 6. The Fins allow you to swim faster left and right, they do not help your control, however. V.
