I am assuming the games with a + after it on the 150 in 1 MVS cart are hacks but what does each do? Is there a list anywhere of what differences it does to each game?

Most people who actually LIKE Neo-Geo frown upon hacked versions. That being said, good luck finding anyone who actually gives a shit about cataloging or explaining screwed up versions of good games.

From most I have seen it unlocks bosses, infinite power gauge, hidden/extra characters, etc.

Some of these (not many) are actually rather neat. For instance, SVC Chaos PLUS has all the characters unlocked from the get go with their own pictures on the character select screen.

Also, some of these may appeal to AES players(myself included) as the legitimate MVS versions of the cart may be locked out from home console use via converter(ex. MS5).

I hate the 100+1 carts. They cheapen the whole aspect of getting a new game. Half the fun of this hobby is me getting MVS carts on the cheap. There is nothing to look forward to when you pay practically nothing and get every game in the neo library.

having a multi-cart isn't going to stop me from purchasing more MVS carts... I think the people that only get pirated carts aren't big fans of Neo Geo to begin with.

I had a lot of Neo CD cdrs, but still bought about 15 original games in the past few months..

To each his own, I suppose. 99.99% of the fun of this hobby, for me, is playing the games. Seriously though, while getting a new cart is fun and all, I have 30-something home carts, so I've been there and done that. I've been at this for like, 14 years now, so I no longer have the patience or disposable income to buy into an ideal. I'll support SNK through their Arcade ports and new releases, rather than fatten some cart hoarder's pockets (though I know not everyone who sells carts falls under that category).

If I can get games that are never gonna be re-released or are too crappy to be ported on a multi-cart, I say why not? If anybody thinks that makes me less of a fan of the Neo, they obviously don't know me and it doesn't matter. I've always been against the whole "price guide/Neo as investment" attitude anyway. No offense to Geddon, who had the best of intentions.

Every time someone cries about the falling value of Radiant Silvergun, because of the upcoming XBLA port, an angel gets its wings.

I agree with LWK but maybe for different reasons, I really don't care about boots or piracy when it comes to the neo. But given that vast library of arcade style games, most people, myself included will jump from game to game and never really buckle down and give a game the play you would if it was your only new game. Maybe if you have great will power this is a non issue... but you do rob yourself of a bit of the experience if you jump around game to game. Not because the game is not legit or because you don't get the joy of getting a new game in the mail, but because you just have so many overwhelming options that you won't wanna get the most out of a single game.

so I don't frown upon multicarts, but I advise against them for someone just getting into the neogeo... if you wanna stay into the neogeo and get the most out of it, I would buy one or two games... play the shit out of them and buy your next game when you are finally burned out on your last game :).

A lot of the + games are interisting because of the unlocked characters, etc. I think in some of the Metal slug boots you can cycle through all the weapons with the D button at any time. They're good for a try, but I'd filter them off the game menu if I could.

I have many MVS carts, but I never seem to take my 100-in-1 out of my cab. It's just way too damn convientant to pick games from a menu rather than swapping carts and having to re adjusts the dip settings every time. Plus, if I have guests over I'd much rather they play that than be banging around in my cab trying to put other carts in. My only gripe is that the game selection menu is so random. Simple alphabtization would be gold.

I think the REAL reason so many NEO fans are against these are because they like to have shiny shock boxes on their shelves with neato anime artwork to display along with their dolls and wall scrolls. If you ask me it's the guys that PLAY the games instead of obsess over original MVS and AES cart collecting that are the real NEO fans.

It cheapened the whole experience for me, thats why I got rid of it. There is just something about being able to reach up and press the start button for 5 seconds to switch out of a game for any reason. Made me a lazy player and brought out the ADHD in me in a big way.

I have a decent collection and thought this would be a good addition...boy was I wrong, got rid of it after like 6 months or so.

To each his/her own. Another 150 games in my gameroom isn't going to make much of a dent when you consider I have a MAME cab that plays thousands... INCLUDING the 150 that the 150-in-1 cart plays. Hell, my Pac has a multi kit on it that plays dozens and dozens of Pac variants.

I had 15 carts I got when I bought this cab. I bought a 150-in-1 and sold the carts that were included in the 150-in-1 and I'm now just focusing on games not included on that multi cart. There are plenty...

My Ms Pac did also...I miss her...

TBH, I thought the multi cart was the greatest thing since sliced bread when I first got it. Already had 60 or so carts so most of the games weren't new to me, but the ADHD thing got to me and out the multi cart went.

I don't mess with mame much for the same reason. I just get overwhelmed with the ability to have so many games at my finger tips and I want to play every single one of them RIGHT NOW. Can't get good at any of them with that logic.

I see what you mean, but I a tendency to pick a game or 2 and camp out for a while, so I don't think it would be that much of a temptation...not to mention that I have a MAME setup too, with TV-Out to my 36" SDTV and the PS2 Neo controller. I just think would be cool to have to play around with it old-fasioned style.

Which brings me to 2 important questions. Do the dips work the same as in the originals for the nonhacked versions? Also do they work with an MVS converter? I still have that old Pranslation jammie from the 70's. ;)

Nope! Didn't even know it was possible til a couple minutes ago when I found the thread about it through Google.

Unfortunately, my soldering skills are pretty poor. I could never be a Big Tymer.

Totally agree, I feel the same way about retro collections on xbox or whatever, although I don't own a 360, my mate has a megadrive collection for the 360 and I find the choice of games to be annoying. I try to keep my neo collecting like the way I played games as a kid. Buy one game at a time, unless there is a deal too good to miss.

Even being new to the NeoGeo scene (other than MVS emu), I would have to agree muticarts kinda ruin the "new game" feeling...

I don't even have my console yet but I already got mods planned out. I'd only bother with multicart if I could play some of my favorite CPS games...

Until recently I thought these were mostly different games from each other. So much for buying it.
