We carry Cheerwine at our store. :D Haven't tried it yet.

wow it's out in TX? I love the stuff since it's kind of a "new" thing for me, as I've only lived on the east coast for about the last 4 years. If you ever liked cherry coke or anything like that, you'll probably dig it, it's similar but without the cola flavor, I dig the color too:)

Never tried them but heard it was good.

CHEERWINE!!

One of my favorite sodas if actually only sold in the Carolinas and Georgia. A friend is moving out here in a few weeks, and his car is turning into a Blenheims smuggling machine.

Do any of you guys have Vernors there? I know it's made in Michigan, but I wasn't sure how widespread it was.

I remember seeing it in Az when I was a kid, haven't really looked for it all recently.

I can get Vernors here. It's good, but a little too sweet.

Blenheims is the hottest ginger ale you can buy.

I dropped a bottle on the floor once. It was like trying to clean up a spill with tear gas all around.

Where I live you don't get the chance to see any local stuff like this outside of sorta-nearby brewers or offbrand drinks like RC Cola.

Not many entrepreneurs here I guess!

RC Cola is the shit. We actually have an "RC Cola / Moon Pie" Festival here every year. I think of Sam's Choice as being off-brand. Royal Crown always seemed like the local cola to me.

Yea we've got Vernor's here in my grocery store I work at, never tried it though.

I like RC Cola, but man, it has an insane amount of sugar lol.

Nice! I have to drive about an hour to do that. You know of any places to snag some Bawls?

We've got Bawls here in the Nashville area. Lots of different flavors. My favorites are regular and root beer.

First place I ever tried it was in RI. TN just started getting it within the last year. BAWLS!

Where are you in SC? I've got some good memories at Folly Beach and the Charleston Pour House. Also a big fan of a certain record shop in Greenville. And yeah, the G33k is good but diff.

Problem is, there are so many little specialty soda shops and stores that carry craft-sodas, that I don't know which are local to here and which are just shipped in for the stores :( There's a soda shop right across the street from my apartment that has probably 500 different types of sodas. Most are just regional to somewhere, I'm sure. I love that store, but it's a bit of choice-overload and I just find the one with a label that appeals to me and is using natural sugar. ;)

The Chai Cola and Café Azteca from Taylor's Tonics is one of my favorites that I found at that shop, but it is hard to come by and they don't always have it

Thanks to the soda specialists I've visited in both Glendale (CA) and outside Minneapolis I've had a chance to taste a lot of regional, cane sure colas and root beers and I can say there's a lot of great stuff out there --I don't know if I can pick anything anymore.

Quirky stuff to, if you're willing to try ancient brands like Moxie (which was supplanted by the less bitter Coke) or the stuff out of places like Jamaica (lots of fun spices in there).

Also, I first heard of Cheerwine in college when a girl from NC kept telling us how awesome it was. Her dad shipped her some, we tried it and... bleh. No one liked it. I tried it again over 10 years later and it's still not my type of sweet taste.

I should take a photo of what I have on hand right now (it's a lot of different stuff).

Cactus Cooler (as mentioned) is the only distinctly regional soda I know of out here. It's great though!

Cheerwine is also really good. You can find in CA at specialty places like Bevmo.

One to beware of though... Moxie Original Elixir. It's a very old cola brand native to the northeast. It's good going down, but then punches you with a weird aftertaste. Not for everyone, but worth a try.

i just tried moxie for the first time (got it from a specialty place). i really dug it. its very different though- i thought the aftertaste was a little pepto-ish.

Yeah, it's kinda "mediciney" isn't it? I didn't much like Moxie the first time I had it, but then a few years later I tried it again just for kicks and ended up enjoying it. There's a very sweet tasting Moxie Blue Cream Soda as well that's really good.

Edit, here's what I presently have on-hand, but not necessarily my favorites. I also have a few bottles of Mexican Coca-Cola in my fridge:

Only commonality is real sugar.

Hehe, sorry Bobak! I didn't see you 'cause I hit the reply button but went to lunch before posting. :D

You mentioned the stuff from Jamaica. I was in the Caribbean last summer and saw some bizarre local sodas at the Bahamas I wanted to try. I chickened out though since they also had cane sugar Dr. Pepper.

For what it's worth, back in the 1920s when Moxie was in it's heyday, it was popular to drink it with a little milk in it.

I like drinking Moxie both ways, but cold is always better than room temperature, more so than other sodas.

Here is a beverage that I always enjoy with Cuban food. Makes me miss southern Florida...
