I got a big pile of Hong Kong laserdiscs, most of them with English subtitles, but I know nothing of HK cinema. I know there are some fans here, can anyone tell me if any of these movies are worth keeping/watching? I just wanted to see if there are any keepers before I pass them on, I don't really intend to keep 30 discs. Hopefully the titles are correct, a few I'm just guessing as it's the only English on the cover.

Raiders of Loesing Treasure
Don't Fool Me
Fist of Fury 1991 II
Super Lady Cop
Powerful Four
The Kid from Tibet
The Iceman Cometh
God of Gamblers 3
To Spy with Love
Long Arm of the Law, Saga II
To Catch a Thief
The Bride with White Hair 2
Chocolate Inspector
The Diary of a Big Man
Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Stars
Butterfly & Sword
Legend of the Dragon
Kung Fu vs Acrobatic
The Raid
Dragon Inn
The Big Score
A Chinese Legend
Yes, Madam!
Zu: Warriors from the Magic Mountain
The Royal Warriors
The Tai Chi Master, Part 1 and 2
Armour of God II: Operation Condor

Zu: Warriors from the Magic Mountain

I'd whittle it down to this. ^
Nice mix of old and modern, fantasy & realistic, wire work, and non wire.

Some really dope shit in this haul; honestly, LDs are so thin. You might keep all 30!

Butterfly & The Sword is good.

Yea that was is hot, has Donnie Yen and Michelle Yeoh in it. Operation Condor is a Chan flick. Its been awhile since I've seen Bride with white hair. Yes. Madam has a young tomboy Michelle Yeoh in it doing some great stuntwork. Also has CYNTHIA ROTHROCK.

MUST SEE

Zu: Warriors from the Magic Mountain (1983)- all star cast with a good story. Well ahead of its time!!! One of my favorite Hong Kong movies and directed by one of the renowned HK director -Hark Tsui

Dragon Inn (1992)- another one of my favorite Hong Kong movie. Great story with intense actions and an all star cast.

Eastern Condors (1985)- Kung Fu and action all the way. Another good movie with an all star cast.

RECOMMENDED:

Chocolate Inspector- Comedy starring the famous "Hui brothers" of Hong Kong

The Diary of a Big Man - Comedy starring Chow Yun-Fat

Long Arm of the Law, Saga II - Action movie and a very popular series in Hong Kong back in the 90s

Fist of Fury 1991 II - Comedy starring Stephen Chow

Armour of God II: Operation Condor - Action movie starring Jackie Chan

Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Stars - Action movie starring Jackie Chan

Powerful Four - a movie depicting the corrupt society of Hong Kong in the 60s

The Kid from Tibet - Action movie starring Biao Yuen

God of Gamblers 3 - Popular series starring Leon Lai

RECOMMEND if you like Kung Fu and Michelle Yeoh:

The Bride with White Hair 2
Butterfly & Sword
Legend of the Dragon
Yes, Madam!
The Royal Warriors
The Tai Chi Master, Part 1 and 2

WASTE OF TIME

The Iceman Cometh - crappy fantasy movie. Saw it in the theater

Sounds like I have some keepers here! I just need to go through and see which ones aren't subtitled then.

Not a big HK movie fan, but the thread inspired me to look up an old movie I used to watch with my family: 7 lucky ninja kids. Looks like it was a terrific dub :lolz:

I just popped each of the discs in to check to see if they had English subtitles, and the whittled down list of movies that have English and are recommended above are:

God of Gamblers III
To Catch a Thief
The Bride with the Hair 2
Butterfly & Sword
Yes Madam
The Royal Warriors
The Tai Chi Master 1 and 2
The Diary of a Big Man
Powerful Four
Kid from Tibet
Legend of the Dragon

Let me know if you decide to get rid of the movies (especially the top 3) ;)

Zu and Operation Condor were not subtitled, so I can't watch them. They're yours if you want them. Hell, you can have all the ones I'm not keeping if you want them, I have no interest in trying to resell LDs.

Wow, that's a great lot.

If you'd consider selling Operation Condor and Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Stars I'd love them for my Jackie Chan collection.

Eastern Condors

The best films in here are the following:

Iceman Cometh - Dont listen to that one person, this is one of Yuen Biao's best film. Excellent fights in this & Maggie Cheung & Biao relationship was funny. Think of Encino Man but w/ violent fights with Yuen Biao vs Yuen Wah!

Dragon Inn - My fav female Bridgitte Lin stars in this, also has the delicious Maggie Cheung. Also, Donnie Yen is the main bad guy! Pretty cool wuxia film w/ lots of wires though

Taichi Master 1 - I really enjoyed this, with Jet li being in one of his more playful role. Also got really serious too. If you can stand the wirefu its great. Has Michelle Yeoh too

Armour of God 2 - This is th HK version, so this probably a lot better then the US release. I remember the US version being severely butchered. Great Jackie movie w/ comedy, fights, & crazy ass stunts.

Eastern Condors - This just badass film, Sammo is so thin in this movie, also his wife is bad ass, so is Yeun Biao he steals every scene...Also the the bad guys in this movie Yuen Wah, Billy Chow, Kurata, Philip Ko, & Dick Wei..All star cast

Yes, Madam! -I believe this was Michelle Yeoh first film or breakout film. Cynthia Rothrock is also in this movie! This was the movie that got the girls with guns genre popular.

Also, Legend of the Dragon, Fist of Fury 1991 II, & God of Gamblers 3 are funny Stephen chow flicks.

Iceman Cometh- GohenX, my bad for mixing up this movie with another film (which I saw in the theater) with a similar Chinese name. So give it a try since Biao Yuen is in it.
