Welcome back shooter fans, this month we're playing Psikyo's horiztonal shooter, Tengai.

To my knowledge, there are no variations between region. I also believe the ports (Saturn/PS2/Switch) are all accurate, and are thus fair game.

Autofire allowed, please note whether you used it or not.

Secret character Ayin is also allowed.

Format: Name - Score - Character - Stage - Platform - Autofire

egg_sanwich - 905,500 - Ayin - 2-1 - PCB - N
Chosen One - 757,400 - Aine - 1/7 - Saturn - Yes auto
ShootTheCore - 663600 - Ayin - 1-6 - PCB - N
_rm_ - 491,100- Junis - 1-5 - PCB
BlackaneseNiNjA - 461,600 - Koyori - 1-5 - Saturn - Y
Dogg - 459,100 - Boobs - 1-5 - Saturn - Y
ggallegos1 - 410,700- Ayin - 1-4 - Switch - Y-Autofire
snes_collector- 359,600 - Ayin - 1-4 - Switch - Y
NERDtendo - 347,100 - Koyori - 1-4 - Saturn - Autofire Yes

Saturn Very Hard Mode:
Dogg - 399,500 - Boobs - 1-4 - Saturn - Y

It looks like I am on a mission to locate this image for my Saturn... I am excited to give this a try!

Nice to see some scores up already!

A couple tips:
- Secret character Ayin can be unlocked at character select screen by highlighting random and inputting up (3), down (3), up (7)
- Secret character Marion (Saturn ver only) can be unlocked by completing the game with all characters
- Grab the medals when they are "flat" to get the max bonus, 2000 points. There is no medal chaining in this game
- On stages that have a floor, you can walk on the floor at certain spots to reveal hidden medals
- Speedkilling enemies can cause additional waves to appear

^ugh that coin trick again just like Gunbird2...well so to speak...could never get the hang of it in GB2, don’t have high hopes

I agree with Geo, I like the art style, fun little shooter.

It’s not as bad as GB2 since there are less medals overall and no chaining. I hear ya though, it’s a tough scoring mechanic

Spoiler:
Powering down is actually useful in managing rank

No problem.

Idk. If I were to, I'd rather participate in a game I have little/no experience with.

I guess I'm not crazy about the combination of already having a personal bar/set of expectations to work my way back to + a deadline.

Nice one snes_collector.

If you haven’t yet, give Ayin a try. He’s arguably the strongest character. One melee attack and one bomb will get you through any boss battle.

Crowd control is super important in this game. Most enemies can be destroyed before they even get a shot off, but if you miss your chance it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Try to be prepared with a charge attack for mid and large enemies before they spawn. A quick panic bomb can get you back on track though if things get hairy.

I'm on the road for business trips for the next little while, so I'm using MAME on a work laptop. Here's my first go:

ShootTheCore - 355,700 - Junis - Stage 4 - MAME - Y

Thank you for the tips and suggestion. I had not tried Ayin yet, but I am doing better with him.

Scores updated!

I see lots of progress happening, with plenty of time left in the month. Keep it up!

Chosen One looks to be in a position to clear the first loop as well :buttrock:

Here's my submission:

egg_sanwich - 483,400 - Ayin - 1-5 - PCB - Y
