Or maybe not expect wind based energy to be a thing in Texas where the state wasn't prepared for the extreme amount of cold that hit it.

Has almost nothing to do with wind.

Denmark has wind.

Wind only makes up a small percentage of the outage. If the turbines were merely idle instead of frozen, it wouldn't even be a story.

Remember that a shortage of natural gas is not a failure of natural gas infrastructure but an intended consequence of 'green' energy policy.

depends on who you ask.

Gas supply in texas isn't down because of environmental concerns. If they aren't producing, they aren't producing.

And I agree that short term spikes will always be difficult because grids won't and shouldn't be overbuilt to handle extremely rare occurrences, however I would still describe reduced natural gas production and the associated regulatory burden as a goal from a certain political bent. At least here in PA.

Yes,

But texas doesn't get natural gas from PA.

They get it from the currently frozen wells in and around texas. They pipe it through local infrastructure that has had to shut and slow down because it lacks burdensome regulation that would keep running in sub freezing temperatures.

Anyways if the environmental Left had it's way, the people of texas would simply be able to plug thier electric car into thier solar line to keep thier geo-thermal exchange pumps running.

It is also important to remember the value of efficient design and retrofit in not overtaxing the current infrastructure.

That is: if Texas had prioritized efficiency, they might be able to handle the reduced demand.

Not sure if you are being sarcastic. But I will answer anyways.

I was of course being facetious.
But.... If you have a solar system, you can theoretically use your electric car as a second battery. Then when the power is out, you could tap that to run basic things.

Technically, you wouldn't need a solar system or geo-thermal exchange system. I just threw them in superfluously for the sake of liberal utopia.

/s is shorthand for sarcastic.

necessity is the mother of shorthand.

I love when people repost that as if it means anything. You're trash LoneSage. Peddling Facebook grandma grade memes on n-g.com

Do you know how big Colorado City, TX is? 4,000 people. Small municipal mayors are just about as far removed from authority figures as you can be while holding public office.

I bet he got under 500 votes.

lol @ this guy. 10 to one he's probably home safe and warm. I thought the money I paid every month for my power meant I was owed what I paid for.
Yeah, he's safe at home now. He resigned over the backlash from that post.

For some reason, his use of "parish" cracks me up endlessly.

Oh he resigned? That's something I hadn't heard of a politician doing in awhile. Honestly myself I'm not mad about the power outages as I knew this was coming and did prepare for it. Even tho it was cold as fuck in my home one morning when I woke up, I still did fine.

Seeing some of my neighbors telling me they went driving around for two hours to look for food and I'm like god damn seriously?

If anything I hope this is a hard lesson for some folks to be better prepared for stuff like this. From most of what people have been telling me, all the major grocery chains around me have been cleaned out hard along with the gas stations that were open had run out of fuel days ago.

The only thing that did piss me off slightly was the damn crack on the windshield of my new car. Thankfully I won't have to pay to get it repaired but it's just the inconvenience of having to deal with it.

As of this time, my power's been back on for almost 6 hours so this probably might be the end of this for now.

Crazy as to the levels that socialism has invaded Texas public policy and culture.

It doesn't surprise me.

I agreed with him till he started blaming socialism.
Socialist societies tend to do much better in crises like what is going on in Texas.
People in socialist societies tend to look out for thier neighbors and take a leadership role.

Instead, the denizens of Texas are woefully underprepared for a long freeze and everybody is scrambling to ask for answers that just aren't there. They are begging the goverment to do something like Ayn Rand running to go on Social Security and Medicare.

Fish I hate to do you like this cuz you're my homie, but what are you talking about.

I mean if you can link me some articles about this then I will read them, I promise, but as a guy who's living in a 'socialist' country and has visited some...they only look out for family. Any other lookout is gossip. Just personal experience.

Visited home in 2016 and wouldn't luck have it, but after taking family on a road trip the wheel blew a flat within five minutes. A guy stopped and helped me replace the tire. Tried to give him 20 bucks but he wouldn't take it. I think about that sometimes, and what it means to be American.

Yeah I'm a few liters in.

Families are essentially a socialist structure within any traditionalist system.

I don't really know if I'd call wider Chinese society socialist.

But you can also look at parts of Northern Europe.

I know. It's officially 'socialism with Chinese characteristics'.

Anyways. I dunno. I don't think I've given up on America, I don't want to. The people need a hero.

Do you feel there’s a push to de-nuclearize the American family (and possibly Western culture’s nuclear family structure)?

Much better for business if every American must live single serving lives.

Well, there are different types of socialism. I don't think myself or the mayor was talking about the Chinese type.

I will never give up on the ideals America represents. No matter how people may twist them to their own benefit.

I hope America can survive when the population hits a billion people.
