Yeah the blu-ray is pathetic, producer commentary and a trailer. That's it.

You think there'd at least be something on the sets, costumes etc. Maybe an interview with Stalone or Snipes, something. It isn't even remastered properly, looks like shit.
It's Warner Bros. They are fucking terrible at giving out decent supplementary material (for the most part). Dates back to the Laserdisc years. You might get a trailer and some commentary... if you were lucky.

Oh yeah? I never heard about that. Makes sense though. It seems like a weird mix of action film, goofiness and social commentary that couldn't quite decide what it's supposed to be.
Yeah, it's one of a number of action films that were either cut to the bare bones, or barely made it out of the editing suite in a coherent state.

Tango & Cash, Another 48 Hours, The Last Boy Scout, Showdown in Little Tokyo, and Out for Justice are just some of the films that fall into this boat, off the top of my head.

It's weird to because it's a pretty high profile title and if you look at other similar genre movies on home video over the years the studios have tried to milk those for all their worth with re-releases, re-masters and special editions. I wouldn't expect it to get the Blade Runner treatment from WB but maybe at least some sort of anniversary edition or something like that at least properly remastered ffs.

Oh, when they do pull their finger out they usually deliver that's the really frustrating part.

Sad to hear about the transfer for Demolition Man, because again, for the most part, Warner releases are usually pretty solid in that department. In fact, and this will make you smile, the only home video copy I have of Demo Man is the LD because the transfer really holds up. If there's ever a 4K release then I'll probably upgrade then.

Otherwise, there's a whole host of their films that need revisiting, and there's an audience there for those special editions, but they don't seem interested. I don't even think they let their films go to third parties like Kino Lorber, MVD, or even Criterion.

Hasn't it been the norm for the past decade for bonus features to be dogshit? Compared to the early 2000s when DVDs were the new hot thing and even the menus had effort put into them.

Pretty much... once the major studios proved you could have all the benefits of Laserdisc without any of the disadvantages that format had, they quickly slipped into the malaise we had with VHS - slap it on a disc and kick it out the door.

The problem nowadays of course is the rise of streaming, so slowing physical media sales means studios are even less interested in putting out special edition blu rays / DVDs.

There's also going to be a certain amount of buyer apathy - DVD had been on the market less than a decade before blu ray was introduced, and then within the next decade we had 4K. Most people just don't want to keep upgrading their home video collections like that, especially as they don't have the set-ups to do the latest formats justice, and those that do are in the minority.

This is why boutique publishers like Kino Lorber, Vinegar Syndrome etc are popping up, but also why 4K releases of some major films just don't appear to be happening.

I moved away from physical when 4K Blu got announced and now just sail the seven seas for everything (I've bought hundreds of movies on multiple formats over the years and feel zero shame) but I'll still make an exception for a Criterion or a really good release of a movie I like. Just happens less and less often these days.

I still buy a fair amount especially the weirder and older stuff, maybe 2 or 3 discs a month. I try to be pretty selective though. And I'm not willing to have 17 different streaming services (I keep it to 2 with an occasional free trial) or fuck around with pirating that much stuff and I don't trust the streaming services and studios since they keep dropping, editing and shuffling around content. Back when most content was available between Netflix, Hulu and Prime it was fine but now it's a nightmare.

I've actually been re-buying The Simpsons best seasons on DVD, they're available on streaming but they are completely unwatchable. I'm pretty sure they're actually pan and scan, not just zoomed in and cropped. Whatever it is it's super fucked up. So even if you don't still buy stuff it's a good idea to hang onto stuff you really like. I saw so many people just dump massive collections because of streaming only to regret it a year later.

I maintain a media server with ~100TB of storage/backup for a number of reasons (VMs, gaming servers, the wife's digital library, various other projects) but one of them is to maintain pristine versions of movies/TV shows for when studios inevitably fuck things up. Plus it's nice to share it all with friends and family via Plex.

I'm pretty selective nowadays over what physical media I buy. I'm pretty much done with LD (there's maybe 5 titles, nothing of particular note that'd I'd spring for if I can ever be bothered); I'll only buy a DVD if there's no other choice (for example the original theatrical release of Human Traffic).

As for blu ray, I'll get the 4K if that's an option. I'd like to replace some of my DVDs with 4Ks if they're ever made available... otherwise if I've not seen it before I try and stream it. I'd rather try before I buy... we only have Netflix, although we do have Crave with our TV package.

Dragons Forever- A romantic comedy starring Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao. It's been years since I'd seen this and man I forgot just how much unbelievably sappy romantic stuff there is. It's just cliche after cliche and that theme music... fuck. Still when these three guys are together you're guaranteed some spectacular action and this definitely delivers. Dudes just getting rag dolled, brutal falls and an exhausting amount of acrobatics. The usual gang of stuntmen and supporting actors are all in top form (gotta love the cigar chomping main bad guy) and Benny the Jets fight with Jackie is some of the best stuff Chan has ever done. Still it's an odd mix of comedy, romance and action. Also special shout out to the fashion in this, some amazing outfits to be seen.

Terrifier : Typical slasher, tries way too fucking hard and while it could have been so much more it ended up just pissing every opportunity into the wind.

Clichè heavy trash, I don't want to watch the hour longer sequel but I guess I have to now.

WTF, I just watched the sequel.

Yeah, 2+ hours. If you're curious to see people being cut into meat, it's OK. Is it better than the first, maybe. Main actress has nice tits to help power through the non-gory parts.

Thank you.

I felt like I was the only one who felt that way. Everybody gushes about about it but there is literally nothing to it. It's just mindless torture porn. Try hard is an understatement.

Hostel comes too mind, at least the sequels.

I liked Terrifier more than the sequel. Respect the practical effects. CGI gore is gay.

Kids VS Aliens. Holy shit that was fun. I love Hobo with a Shotgun though, so your mileage will vary. Just authentic nostalgic tone, small scale, Canadian shit....which I dig.

Clue- Man I remember watching this a lot as a kid and I finally figured out why. It wasn't the amazing cast, the nonstop humor or the incredible pacing. It was definitely that French maid.

Colleen Camp was a fucking 10. Just don't look her up now. Poor lady went through some shit.

Braindead (Dead Alive)- Absolute mayhem from start to finish. Wildly ambitious and unbelievably entertaining and while not everything works there's just so much insanity, slapstick, effects gags, goop, gore and it all moves at such an incredible pace that you're just kind of along for the ride. It's amazing that just a few years later Peter Jackson was filming the LOTR trilogy. It's probably been close to 20 years since I'd seen this and only remembered a few key scenes. I have to say it's actually quite an exhausting film, in a good way.

Edit: In case anyone was wondering the Spanish blu-ray is region free and looks way better than the piece of shit ultra expensive US release.

Yeah, I sold my US Blu copy several years ago when they announced Peter Jackson had regained the rights to all of his old movies.. Not sure how I feel about Meet the Feebles in glorious 8K but why hold on to a crap release that dumb people will give you $200 for?

I have a dope Italian uncut DVD of Braindead that I am very happy with, plus the Anchor Bay Bad Taste. I'm trying to remember who put out Meet the Feebles, but I have that as well. Those flicks (especially Bad Taste and Feebles) I am so used to seeing on bootleg VHS for so many years that DVD is like, fucking Criterion Bluray to my eyeballs. I actually wrote my senior English high school paper on Peter Jackson lol - Heavenly Creatures was still in production.

How in the hell is there not a Criterion Bluray or similar treatment for Marquis (1989)?! I have a French DVD I guard with my life.
