I still cringe when I see jacks drilled into the back of an AES case. Luckily it seems to have gone out of fashion in the past few years.

FYI, those HDMI AESes on ebay aren't real HDMI. They use a cheap analog to HDMI converter inside.

In all likelihood yes. Was the seller kpj? Best way to know for sure would be to open the system and take a photo. It would be interesting for all of us to see, but I can understand if you don't want to mess with the sticky feet covering the screws on the bottom of the console. (If they are already replacements, more new feet can be easily purchased online.) In my experience, the replacement feet can be safely peeled back and re-stuck.

Real all-digital HDMI on an AES will happen some day. It's already possible on an MV-1C board. It's only a matter of time until someone designs one for AES.

neotropolis on ebay, what bit do you you use on the feet? Is it just the four screws?

The oldest models have 4 screws. The rest have 5 screws. Just use a standard phillips head screw driver.

Yeh I just meant the phillips bit size, doesn’t matter. I’ll get to it eventually. I don’t want to strip or damage anything.

What the hell, man? That's the most basic philips head ever. How do you strip those? I don't know which screws you need, but I think if you take them to a hardware store you can get a close enough replacement

Thanks for the photo. This confirms more or less what I was expecting. Basically the board from one of those cheapo RGB to HDMi boxes connected directly to the analog RGB signal from the Neo. Hopefully we'll get a true digital HDMI board for AES soon, and then you could get someone to upgrade your system to that if you want.

I would have preferred that they secured the HDMI converter board to the AES board rather than the case. But since they already drilled holes in the case it needs to connect to, I guess might as well. The whole thing is not my cup of tea.

These are nice consoles that cost a lot of money back in the day. Each one represents a significant financial investment by the original buyer. They are to be coveted and protected.

If you start stripping one screw, you stop. You don't proceed and strip 2 or 3 more.

This whole thread reeks of an impatient millenial who barely gives a fuck. @Iggy I hope you learn from this and become a Neo expert one day.

Dang. I feel like a scum bag if I send someone a pic of a Gameboy and there is dust under the screen…

Your house already looks like an estate sale removal truck drove through it and you want more shit? You need to buy some shelves and some Windex.

Technically they are probably JIS “cross” screws, but the difference is rarely a problem unless the user is…not experienced with stuff as simple as undoing screws. Normally it only matters if rust is involved or if they are stainless screws (which tend to gall up in smaller sizes.)

well turns out they aren’t stripped so y’all can breath. i know how to use a screwdriver hence me asking what phillips bit i would need… i had to go through the foam so I couldn’t make much of what i would need before hand. and standard head? much smaller than a phillips #2

I bet I know what the issue is... he's been using a left-handed screw driver! Easy mistake to make. Live 'n' learn, eh?

BTW, my condolences for being flecced by neotropolis.
