The high-end 30 series cards are still expensive in Australia (12GB 3080Ti- about $2200 Australian). 3090Ti's are more like $3500.
But the lower-end (3050, 3060) have come down in price.
3rd gen ray tracing cards (40 series) are just around the corner, anyway.

I don't need one, I just want one. My 2080ti still maxes everything out at 1440p anyway and I got that thing in nov 2018. There won't be any PC titles in the next 2 years that will require more grunt so I probably won't upgrade until 2024 unless it dies.

I've been a "couch" PC gamer since 2012, so here's my thoughts for your question.

Anything above a 3070 would be a bit overkill for you, I think. My buddy just upgraded to a 3070 after borrowing my 2080ti for a while last year (I built a new rig in 2020 with a RTX 3090 - MSRP). He said it's not a substantial upgrade from the 2080ti, but his set up is very similar to what you're after - 1440p at 144hz. A 3080 would give you a bit more head room if you plan on running Ray Tracing and the like. I wouldn't recommend lower than a 3070 right now, so long as you can afford it.

Additionally, I will say that DLSS is a game changer if you plan on checking out what Ray Tracing has to offer as it does give a significant boost to image quality and allows headroom for far more GFX options. Games with DLSS 2.1 are even better - evening out some of the artifacting that was inherent with the first implementation of DLSS.

Ray Tracing is generally better on Nvidia cards right now, and AMD doesn't really have a good competitor for DLSS in that space either. So, take that as you will.

Hope this helps!

I just ordered a Evga 12gb 3080 from Amazon. Has a estimated ship date of May 12th so it gives me a little more time to see if prices come down a bit more.

I think that should future proof me for the next 4 years or so.

It's hard to find anything PC related nowadays without RGB. I just build a PC for work (photo-video) and motherboard and GPU (Radeon 6800) both have RGB. Kid loves it, I couldn't care less to be honest but I know when it's on at least.

Just turn the RGB off if you don't like it...
Pretty much. Yea the disco ball rgb stuff had a spark in the beginning but I've always preferred a more stealth look.
