I think it was mentioned a few pages back but I cant be arsed so:

Night Sky

Thought it was pretty good, a bit slow at times. But overall interesting. Can't stand the Byron character though. He just seems like a pain in the ass, even the actor.
He was pretty bad until the old folks home worker lady showed up and stole the Worst Character Ever award from him.

Been watching the third season of Dark Side of the Ring. I'm not a wrestling fan but man this shit is crazy, such a bizarre culture. The downside is that almost every story ends the same. It's always drugs, booze, sexual assault, death or some other horrible shit. Most of these guys should be in jail honestly. The one I watched last night was on the XPW which basically takes all the worst elements of extreme wrestling and added ultra hardcore porn. Some seriously degenerate shit.

Going through later season of It's Always Sunny that I missed, which is a lot considering just how many there are. Some highlight episodes for me include:

-The water park
-The christian cruise
-The lotto ticket/dildo bike
-The day in the life of Cricket
-The clip show (just for the part where Frank has hair and really long legs)
-The heatwave
-The sexual harassment seminar
-The Dennis sex doll one but Mindy Kailing almost ruins it

The show has mostly maintained it's quality (such that it is) and every time you think an episode sucks it's almost always balanced a good one. None of them are quite on the level of the class reunion or the Dayman/Nightman stuff but there's still some gems to be found.

I want to talk a bit about the Boys. Last couple episodes have been really great. I was initially pretty cool on this season, but once it started going (excuse the expression but) oh boy.

I feel like Amazon hyped the orgy episode to get people to watch and create buzz, and the funny part is that it absolutely, 100% was the best episode this season, and not because of the orgy. That was basically a distraction from some really great (for the show) character development.

Also, we finally got a fight worthy of a Super-Hero show. Wow.

Norm MacDonald wanted to appear on that show, but exec producer Divito put the kibosh on that because he still hated Norm for the fistfight he'd had with Christopher Lloyd 20 years earlier. That's the rumor anyway.

That would have been interesting, I can definitely see how Norm would have been a great fit on the show especially since there was a lot of sports centric humor and general scumbaggery. For as loved as he was he burned a lot of bridges over the years though. Plus DeVito and Lloyd go back all the way to Taxi so imagine that was (potentially) a pretty legit grudge.

Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow mostly make The Old Man worth watching, but wow is the premise stupid (I know it's based on a book, one with a stupid premise). The story in general is pretty silly, but then the reveal in episode three made my eyes about roll out of my head. There are also too many scenes and dialogue that just feel completely melodramatic and self-important.

I'll probably keep watching it but my expectations are not high for the rest of the season.

I want to watch this one.

I assume it's dumb like Denzel's The Equalizer, AKA the Home Depot hero.

I love Bridges and Lithgow but I fully expect a Liam Neeson level grandpa-action thriller except needlessly stretched out.

This type of action is my guilty pleasure. Terrible or not.

Grandpa action thriller is an lol phrase. I’m stealing it for sure.

Well the Orville has been disappointing for season 3.

Preachy. Woke. Annoying. Also, no Dann.

What the fuck.

We’ve been talking about it in the Star Trek thread, but just wanted to say the new trek show Strange New Worlds is excellent and the best Trek since TNG. Season finale next Thursday.

It's not quite that... sort of an odd combination of Shawkat, Bridges, and Lithgow carrying a mostly engaging spy thriller alongside just cheap thrills old-school bad-ass Jack Ryan-type and then a bunch of dumb soap stuff thrown in.

It's not remotely good but it's still completely entertaining, not sure what that says about my tastes.

Feels very much like what would happen if a Tom Clancy adaptation actually had some nuance.

edit: Brenneman has been very good in a mostly thankless role. End of episode 4 was nice.

There's a (very) odd side story thrown in where the story is told from the POV of an assassin who works in a nursing home. Not even making this up if I tried. It's one of the best parts of the show. Utterly weird show that ultimately... yeah, I think I'd recommend checking it out if only for the completely bizarre tilt on its axis. Not good, but still completely compelling all the same.

Watched the two final episodes of Stranger Things 4, only had to block out like three days on my calendar to do so. JK for most part, but... the second to last episode is 90 minutes and the last is 140 minutes, that's three movies. Against all odds, like for real, it pretty much earns the runtime IMO. Show has what 15 main characters at this point? And this time Hopper/Joyce/Murray/Russians weren't even useless. The finale, in particular, was... really good. Duffers gonna have some serious expectations for ST5, and TBH, I'd not bet against them.

Spoiler:
So the Mindflayer is essentially the same collective evil thing as Vecna now, right? Looks like it knew that Eleven would use a Phoenix Down on Max and thus is somehow using Max and said revival to go to the real world maybe? I kinda think the part in the memory where Max/El blanked out is going to end up being that she's also got powers that were mainly a failsafe against 1.

Spoiler:
I don't think so. Well - ok maybe now it is. But he encountered the "mind flayer" in that weird orange world he was originally banished to. That scene showed us that he did not create the Demogorgon/dogs. (Does he control em now? Yeah but he didn't create them.) The mind flayer 'thing' still needs to be explained. There just wasn't enough exposition about it. I'm thinking it was just like, raw power, or something like the force that was in that dimension, and since One/Vecna/Henry was so powerful he was able to shape it and use it to his own design. At this point I don't think the Mind Flayer is a real thing and never was - Vecna is the only big-bad in the show, and he created the Mind Flayer as an extension of his own power.

I couldn't sleep last night and ended up watching some of the Menudo doc on HBO Max. It's actually pretty good and man I had no idea how big a thing the group was. It's insane. Even before they broke in Mexico and the US the manager was making over $20 million a year and that's all the way back in 80/81, that's just in Puerto Rico and Central America.

It's also pretty wild that they toured Central America so heavily when all the military coups and shit were happening.

Night Sky was canceled by Amazon, because, of course it was.

Finished Stranger Things season 4. Honestly I really liked this season for the most part. Even though seasons 2 and 3 had their problems (especially 2) they've really built up the world and characters extremely well and this season really shows what they can do now that things are fully realized and they don't spend too much times ticking around. Good stuff.

I love the Boys. I binged the first two seasons a few months ago and have been watching the new stuff as it comes out. I was afraid that the show would lose its teeth in the third season but it's still pretty great. I think I traumatized Beff by showing him a clip of the urethra sneeze scene.

The herogasm scenes weren't even bad, it was entirely played for comedy. Some people just get shocked to see a penis. Then after the comedy you get to see someone dragged on the street until they're just a pile of meat. A++

So, some premieres:

Better Call Saul Final season P 2: damn good, as per usual. Not sure if I really buy the idea on Jimmy's initial snap decision re: Kim, but Fring's response to it makes it pay off well. Goddamn I hope Rhea Seehorn finally wins an Emmy this year.

And then there's What We Do in the Shadows. Neither of the first two episodes of this seasons was any good at all. I kinda think this is the usual path a show takes, where the creators move away from it and a random staff of writers is left to carry it and hope that it's good enough (though there are direct contrasts, see above). In this case, it's really not. Awful pair of episodes to start the season and I'm not optimistic that it will improve with Waititi busy making bad Disney movies and Jemaine apparently also doing otherwise.

Watched the first couple episodes of Only Murders in the Building S2. I think they're continuing the story well enough but it seems a little too self aware or something, feels a little off. Also Amy Schumer needs to fucking go away.
