As per the title I have a PC Engine Duo for sale.

The unit has been RGB modded and (I believe) it has been recapped. This work was not carried out by me, I bought it with the mod work done.

The unit puts out a great picture, and no issues with the sound. I picked this up from Japan so it's RGB-21 not Euro Scart.

Now, here's the rub - plays Hu-cards flawlessly, but the CD drive doesn't work. I've looked at a number of potential fixes but can't fathom it out.

Comes with original PSU & av cables, RGB-21 scart cable, and controller.

Cosmetically in excellent condition overall.

£150 + Shipping from Canada.

Other than the Neo's design, Ive always thought the Duo's design was schmexy.
Same here. The Duo is one of my all-time favourite console designs, and certainly, imo, the best looking PC Engine hardware NEC produced.

I really don't understand why people go nuts for the Duo-R and Duo-RX, especially as they go yellow the second you remove them from their box. :spock:

People go for the R and RX because they don’t have capacitor plague nearly as bad as the black Duo. I love the OG Black Duo, but there’s a reason they’re inexpensive - they are tough to fix when the caps go bad, leaking onto the board and causing damage. I for one don’t recommend them for beginners to recap and repair.

That and the black Duo has weak sound quality, even when fully working with new caps. It pales in comparison to the R, RX and even all the Hucard-only systems.

Edit: specifically it’s the Hucard sound that is weak and thin on the black Duo. CD-DA sounds great like the other Duos.

Interesting. I did not know that. Thank you :)

do you have any pics of the mod work? Or info on who did the work?
I can take the lid off, but I don't have any pics to hand. Nope, no idea who did the work, I originally bought this through YHJ!, so could have been the seller, could have been someone else. The RGB picture is nice and crisp, just needs the CD drive sorting.
