Game Info

The game itself is a fun - filled, fantasy platformer from Alpha Denshi gaming. It's set in a fantasy land called Raguy and has our hero, who's name is Blue traveling through Raguy, who's main aim is to defeat the bad .... dude, who has polluted the whole of Raguy. Original or what ?

Graphics - 8

The word 'cute' springs to mind almost straight away when you load it up. It reeks cuteness from every orifice. The graphics aren't what you call superb, but it does the job nicely. Very colourful and cute background and main character design. The game has a very 'larger than life' feel to it, which is good. This is created by the overall plot and graphical feel of the game. Some very nice effects in the game include the waterfall and fountain effects of flickering very quickly ! Overall, the graphics are a cross of Super Mario World, Sonic and various Amiga platforming romps. Well, that's my opinion.

Playability - 7

The controls in the game are fairly quick and responsive. although the game can get a tad repetitive. Dropping leaves on enemies and throwing them at other enemies is okay, but the novelty wears off after a while. Also, fighting some of the end of level guardians can be a bit of a hit and miss affair at times, with some of the end of level bosses being a bit tricky to defeat. You soon get the hang of it. The game features infinite continues which reduces replay value, but I do like the idea of being able to switch character sizes from normal to small size. This is useful for getting into those hard to reach areas. Very innovative !!

Sound - 7

The game features typically happy, jolly music which sounds as if it's lifted from a 'U'' rated Manga [Umm, that's rated "G" for all you American wankers. -Ed.]. The game features some catchy tunes, which may get your toes tapping, but it's nothing to rave about. There is also some sampled voices in there, but nothing really understandable.

Overall

If you can get hold of this game, go on and get it. It may get a tad tedious, but it makes a refreshing difference from the masses of Beat'em ups available on the console. I own this game on CD format and the load time is nothing to worry about. Once the initial load is done, it's pretty much a case of playing without hardly any load time. Basically, this game is the closest you're going to get to having Sonic or Mario on the Neo Geo. Enjoy !!
