I use 1.65" x 7.5" There's a bit more clearance vertically than horizontally. It leaves enough that even bootleg cart cases that are slightly wider can fit without scraping. Your 7.75" might be a bit too much, but 7.6" would be a generous amount of clearance I'd say.
