Is the American board game industry actually as fucked as it seems right now do to the tariff situation?

yes and no. prices for chinese manufacturing has been increasing year over year. they shot up even more during covid thanks to shipping prices and never came back down. this already pushed some companies to dabble in US manufacturing.

I suspect a hybrid approach where parts are made in china, but the final game is assembled elsewhere to avoid tariffs. Companies have been doing that for decades anyways.

Anyway I bought the John Carter RPG from Modiphius. But some nicer edition that comes with a campaign book but also has a miniatures skirmish rule set which is kind of why I went with that. Modiphius’ tactical mini games are pretty decent (I guess I could also post this in the 40K thread.)

@Taiso, did you get your copy of ACKS 2 yet? Got mine in the other day and damn is it a nice set of books. I forgot I was getting the GM screen as well and I’m surprised at what a nice product it is. Usually I think a GM screen is kind of dumb but this one is functional and comes with a dozen or so reference cards for the GM (or players) making it surprisingly functional.

I just sent an e-mail to Alex Macris about it and he said that because I ordered the slipcase edition it's been delayed. Apparently the slipcases are too large so they have to get that sorted out.

Yeah I just checked a previous kickstarter update and slip cases were delayed and they’re only able to assemble like 100 a week. Probably will be worth it in the end.

Monolith is currently handling the Conan license and both the board game and RPG seem to be in tune with the source material. It will, at the very least, try to honor its inspiration if their past handling of similar franchises is any indication.

I dont expect Fantasy Flight to make it much longer.
Card games are the only thing keeping them alive.

If that's the case, Fantasy Flight's key IPs will get integrated into Asmodee and they'll likely sell off the rest. It's not a new pattern for them at all. I believe Ares Games has acquired a number of their IPs and licenses in the past.
