August SotM: Mars Matrix

At the end of stage 1 I'm usually looking at 500,000,000 on CPS2 or 1,200,000,000 on Dreamcast. Roughly 40,000 EXP either way. Right now I aim to get to 100,000 exp (lv4, first extend) by the stage 2 boss. I've got the first 2 stages down a lot better than stage 3, and stage 4 is just survival if I get there.

I've been playing, not worth putting my score up there if it's not up to par with skates...up to level 4 but nowhere near as good as skates, I just do the survive thing the whole time, I mean I know how to score but damn, easier said than done...

I'm gonna have to relearn this one again. I love the music - i'm hoping it comes back to me quickly. I used to have a solid pattern for the first 2 stages but I just survive once I hit stage 3 and have never touched stage 5.

Love this game but as I suspected - completely awkward as I relearn the chaining pattern and use of pierce cannon. Just under 3 billion after 3 runs.

I'm on CPS2. Hit stage 4 the last couple runs - but i'm not even chaining level 1 well yet. I'm losing it 2-3 times.

Level 2 - i've got the 2nd half down already - that's always been a really easy section that just sorta flows.

Level 3 i've never started out well, but I typically find a groove about 30 seconds in. I often die milking that item on the left about 45 seconds in that just keeps spewing ingot as long as you are shooting it. I always hold it too long and get got. The crab boss - it isn't one thing he does that I find difficult, I just sorta die randomly. The only thing consistent is that I do die at some point. I'll probably go back to just bombing him and forget about milking / scoring on him.

Level 4 is where it gets really tough and really fast for me.

It has been a crazy month... I had a slalom skateboard race, a wedding to be in, and I just finished the last game of summer hockey season playoffs. I still managed to squeeze runs in as much as I could. I made a ton of progress this month so I'm happy about that.

I think I'm done, unless I dust off the DC again to compare my progress with pandar's score. We've got to be close, I was getting around the same EXP on my better runs and that's really the only decent baseline I've found between platforms given the scoring differences.

I could not silence my curiosity, I had to see how my DC score would look after all the CPS2 practice. I actually managed to make it to the stage 4 boss for the first time... how I survived the big ship before the boss is beyond me. I damn near lost my last life trying to get to the 1up after the first mid-boss type dude on level 4.

LOL!!!! nice one brotha! I gave up, tried a couple more runs and it just fell apart everytime. I might come back to the one, I would like to crack 100 billion, but it might be awhile, I'm back raging on Ibara again :/
