Go to http://www.avast.com the home edition is 100% free and it updates at least once a day. (it also talks to you when its updated 'your virus database has been updated' and is extremely amusing and camp) :multi_co:

prevention.

No, seriously, companies like McAffee and Norton engineer viruses and release them to encourage to buy their rip-off junk. Without very geeky skills to do safe-mode stuff not even the best can delete every ...ware/virus/trojan.

use common sense when browsing and I recommend you use Mozilla Firefox. VERY safe, updated regulaly, safe, very customizable, tabbed browsing.....and imports all of your old IE settings (a program which has not been updated in ten years).

I use this every once in a while. I run no active scan programs and everything runs fine. These background running, system resource hogging programs are among my most hated software programs.

Just reformat or change hard drives is every couple months and you'll be fine.

I have mcafee and it seems to slow everything down. :loco:

Sorry to get of the topic. I believe spyware scanners are just as important as Virus detection programs.

Pandasoftware do a nice online scanner that saves you having to have the stuff clogging up your system the whole time.

Always stuck withAVG for my anti-virus software and spybot for spyware. Never had any problems with either.
