Finished the last segment of the final season of Cobra Kai.

It gets cartoonishly stupid in a bad way at certain points, but it manages to stick the landing pretty well overall. Johnny for sure gets a satisfactory ending.

I guess they couldn't afford Hilary Swank.

I agree 100%, it's very enjoyable to watch in the moment but then you start to think, maybe a half-hour later and forever after, that did they need for literally EVERY sort-of main character to get a perfect ending? Maybe every one of the main event fights didn't have to play out in exactly the same way?
Spoiler:
Kreese offing Terry in the middle of the ocean was the one thing I really liked with no reservations
Saccharine is probably the word I'd have for it. Executed well but mostly dumb. Also, the middle 5 episodes were still completely unnecessary and just a waste of time.

I finally also finished American Primeval, ended up liking it a lot more than I thought I would. Fairly simple story, but plenty of oomph to tell it with a good cast and a director that really helped it shine. Kim Coates as Brigham Young really surprised me, never thought he had that depth of a character in him before, and I tend to really like Betty Gilpin and Shea Whigham and Kitsch was very good too.

I could have done without
Spoiler:

the AI Miyagi sequences
the VR headset sequences
Chozen's love life in general
The entire Master Kim character

@HornheaDD sup brotha you watching season 3 of INVINCIBLE?
Most definitely my man. Great season so far.

I'm really hoping Kirkman/Ottley/Walker allow one of my other favorite Invincible characters show up unfettered tho. I hope we get to see Tech Jacket. "Seance Dog" was a disappointment, while understandable. But I really wanna see Tech Jacket in the upcoming storylines.

Only watched the first two episodes so far. Really enjoyed the look at Cecil’s backstory in Ep 2.

I’m going to have to read all the comics at some point.

Show is too damn good.

The last batch of Cobra Kai episodes ended about as well as one could have expected, given how silly many of the series' narrative conceits have been in aggregate.

There was definitely some gay stuff in these last five episodes, just as there have been in many of the other episodes of this show.

Overall, I still think that the series could just be called The Redemption of Karate Kid 3. Everyone more or less gets the ending you'd expect and they close off every plot threads.

The revelation of Miyagi's mysterious past was the one thing I was entirely satisfied with.

I could say a lot more but these episodes are still fresh so no spoilers.

I think that anyone that ever had any affection for the three Ralph Macchio led films should definitely watch Cobra Kai in its entirety. There are very many rewarding moments in the show.

It has a lot of Degrassi tier drama in it in a chop socky vein. Much of it is stupid but I still think I had fun with it. I'm just glad it was successful. It was a passion project that the show runners and actors got to see through to the end, a rarity in these times when stuff gets cancelled way too soon.

I absolutely do not need to see Karate Kid: Legends. At all. I think, for me, this is a good way to send Daniel, Johnny and all the rest off.

The show changes a few things, but honestly they really aren't that big of a deal. Amber isn't black in the comics, shes a white/blonde/blue eyed girl, but who gives a shit. She's voiced by Zazie Beetz, so - 100% rad positive change there. William and (Steve? I think) don't get together for a while, and William actually dates Amber for a bit until he realizes he likes weeners.

Completely negligible changes. There are a few other things that are mildly different, but honestly the biggest change from the comic is the level of violence, gore and foul language. To be clear, there is definitely that stuff in the comics, it's just not as much. I didn't really see the need for the increase because it doesn't really serve the story, but eh whatever. The show definitely has WAY more good things than bad.

I know it's totally cliche, but the comic is honestly even better. I highly recommend it, and the best thing is that it actually ends. It wasn't canceled due to poor sales. It has a beginning/middle/end. They were pretty late on a bundle of issues during the run, but it is what it is. There are a few adjacent stories/comics and characters that come into play that I think they are probably going to nix or change like Science (pardon me Seance) Dog. There is also a spinoff series called Guarding The Globe that ended up getting canceled but it follows the GOG on their adventures and introduces a few cool people that make appearances in Invincible.

Tech Jacket was his own book for a while that I guess got canned for a little bit but then came back, and he makes several appearances in Invincible for a few key scenes. Plus hes just a cool character.

Michael Dorn in the fourth episode of this season (which they’re calling season 4 stupidly) was a real treat.

Watched the first couple episodes of Interior Chinatown. I’m not sure the concept totally works but it’s not terrible. Basically it’s about a waiter at a Chinese restaurant (Jin Yang from Silicon Valley) who feels trapped in his crappy mundane life and lives in the shadow of his older brother who disappeared years earlier. He desperately wants to break out of his little world and realize his full potential. The catch is he’s actually just a background character in a crappy police drama TV show. Like literally an extra in someone else’s story powerless to do anything that will effect the plot.

It’s a fun idea but it’s handled kind of awkwardly, though it seems like some of that might be intentional as the character(s) start to figure out the gimmick themselves. So there’s definitely potential.

Been checking out "Common Side Effects." The art is... odd, but somehow works. Basically a guy discovers a mushroom that can cure just about anything including death. Its 4 episodes into its first season so far and its not bad. Some humor but I think its more of a drama. Its not bad.

Michelle Trachtenberg has died at 39 due to complications from a liver transplant.

She was best known for her role as Dawn Summers, Buffy's younger sister on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Also known for Eurotrip, Gossip Girl, Harriet the Spy, The Adventures of Pete and Pete, Weeds, Six Feet Under, and voicework on Robot Chicken.

She's the third major cast member from Buffy/Angel to die in their 30s after Andy Hallett (Lorne the host) and Glenn Quinn (Doyle).

Holy shit. I always thought the way Whedon sexualized Dawn (all of the characters that were teenagers, in fact) was super creepy but that has nothing to do with Trachtenberg, who did the best with the material given to her in a production we've come to learn, over the years, was very brutal to its cast at times.

Wow. Too young. I am sad.

Michelle was the only one of them who was actually the age she was playing on the show, which makes Whedon's treatment of her that much worse. He was awful to Charisma Carpenter, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Amber Benson as well but at least they were all grown adults. By the end of the show's run Whedon wasn't allowed to be alone with Trachtenberg at all due to his constant verbal abuse.

I'm surprised there was ever a time when he WAS allowed to be alone with her, given that she was a minor.

What's really crazy is if you ever catch one of those old interviews where they're all praising the shit out of Whedon. What a genius, what a great guy, what an ally, etc., etc.

I’ll be 41 this year.

To go at 39? God damn what a fucking tragedy.

Didn’t realize that was her on the Adventures of Pete and Pete.

Rest in peace.
