Undisputed title fight on ESPN tomorrow, basic cable, no PPV or streaming nonsense.

Jose Carlos Ramirez vs Josh Taylor for the Undisputed Super Lightweight World Championship

Titles on the line:
Taylor's WBA (Super), IBF, The Ring
Ramirez's WBC, WBO
Vacant Lineal

As long as we get a winner, we will have the sixth men's undisputed champion of the four belt era (2005-present):
1. Bernard Hopkins, 1 defense (middleweight)
2. Jermain Taylor, 0 defenses (middleweight, dethroned Hopkins)
3. Terence Crawford, 0 defenses (super lightweight)
4. Oleksandr Usyk, 1 defense (cruiserweight)
5. Teofimo Lopez, 0 defenses so far (lightweight* technically he's WBC Franchise champion, but whatever)

On the women's side, there have been:
1. Cecilia Braekhus, 10 defenses (welterweight, longest reigning four belt champion ever)
2. Claressa Shields, 0 defenses so far (previously middleweight, presently super welterweight)
3. Katie Taylor, 3 defenses so far (lightweight)
4. Jessica McCaskill, 1 defense so far (dethroned Braekhus)

There are more undisputed fights on the horizon, though:
June 19 - Elin Cederroos vs Franchon Crews-Dezurn for the undisputed women's super middleweight championship
July 17 - Jermell Charlo vs Brian Castano for the undisputed super welterweight championship

And, hopefully this fall, Canelo vs Plant for the undisputed men's super middleweight championship.

Holy shit Pacquiao vs Spence! August 21 on Fox PPV.

Spence is the reigning WBC and IBF Welterweight Champion. Pacquiao was stripped of his WBA belt for inactivity but was last seen two years ago edging out Keith Thurman in a war.

I have Spence winning this by KO. He has beaten Danny Garcia, Shawn Porter, and Mikey Garcia in three consecutive fights and Pac is 42, coming off two years of inactivity.

Props to Pac for taking this fight, just wish they had announced it before Pac was stripped for inactivity.

Unless Spence is getting a delayed reaction to the car crash from 2019, there is no way Pacquiao can win.

I felt bad for Mikey, because he couldn't do anything against Spence and I believe Pac will have an even harder time.

Taylor did it the hard way. His last 10 opponents (least recent to most recent), and their records when Josh Taylor fought them
Warren Joubert 26-4-5
Ohara Davies 15-0-0
Miguel Vazquez 39-5-0 (former IBF lightweight world champion)
Winston Campos 30-3-5
Viktor Postol 29-1-0 (former WBC super lightweight world champion; only loss was in a unification with Crawford)
Ryan Martin 22-0-0
Ivan Baranchyk 19-0-0 (reigning IBF super lightweight world champion)
Regis Prograis 24-0-0 (unification; reigning WBA (super) super lightweight world champion; for vacant Ring title)
Apinun Khongsong 16-0-0 (mandatory challenger)
Jose Carlos Ramirez 26-0-0 (unification; reigning WBC and WBO super lightweight world champion; for vacant Lineal title)

Taylor was 8-0 when he began this run.

IBF/IBO World Middleweight Champion Gennadiy Golovkin will face WBA (Super) Champion Ryota Murata in Japan on New Year's Eve in a unification fight.

They were originally going to do it sooner, but the status of Japan regarding COVID right now is pretty bad. So Golovkin is going to take a tune-up fight this summer and then hopefully they will be allowed to run Tokyo Dome at full capacity.

That's what I like about Golovkin. He seeks out other champions and other belts, he doesn't just collect one belt and defend it against bums indefinitely like Andrade.

Four world title fights tonight.

Devin Haney vs Jorge Linares for Haney's WBC lightweight title is the DAZN headliner. Technically Haney's belt is fake since Teofimo Lopez has the WBC "Franchise" title but this is a good fight and the winner will probably fight Lopez anyway. This is a huge step up for Haney, who has not fought anyone on the level of Linares.

On the DAZN undercard are Chantelle Cameron vs. Melissa Hernandez for Cameron's WBC women's junior welterweight title and Martin Ward vs. Azinga Fuzile for the vacant IBF junior lightweight title.

The biggest fight of the night is over on Showtime, though: Nordine Oubaali defends the WBC Super Bantamweight Championship against the legendary Nonito Donaire.

Oubaali:
17-0-0-0, 12 KO
2 world title defenses
2 wins against former world champions (Rau'shee Warren, Julio Cesar Miranda)

Donaire:
40-6-0-0, 26 KO
Former four division world champion (five if you count interim titles)
IBF and IBO flyweight champion, 3 defenses, moved up
WBA interim super flyweight champion, 2 defenses, moved up
Unified WBC and WBO bantamweight champion, two defenses, moved up
WBO super bantamweight champion, 3 defenses, unified with IBF and The Ring, lost to Guillermo Rigondeaux
WBA featherweight champion, lost on first defense to Nicolas Walters
regained WBO bantamweight championship, 1 defense, lost to Jesse Magdaleno
WBA (super) bantamweight champion, 1 defense, lost to Naoya Inoue in an IBF/Ring unification in the 2019 fight of the year

Basically, if there were no Manny Pacquiao, Nonito Donaire would be Manny Pacquiao.

For him to regain another world title at 38 in a weight division this low would be an incredible accomlishment.

Correction, Ward vs Fuzile is an IBF eliminator, not an IBF title fight. ESPN just dumb.

It looked like the theme of the night was going to be the younger fighters taking the torch from the older ones.

First the 30 year old Chantelle Cameron disposed of the 41 year old legend Melissa Hernandez in her WBC super lightweight title defense.

Then the 22 year old Devin Haney retained his belt against the 36 year old Jorge Linares, though Linares hurt him bad at the end of the 10th and Haney spent the rest of the fight running for his life.

But the 38 year old Nonito Donaire was not having any of that bullshit, and he savagely knocked out Nordine Oubaali to take his WBC bantamweight championship. That makes three world title reigns in the division for Donaire.

Add up all the holding that jab and clinch fighters like Floyd, Wlad, Lewis, etc ever did in their entire careers combined and this single gif is a hundred times worse:

Claressa Shields won her pro MMA debut by KO in round 3. She was controlled on the ground for the first couple rounds but was able to avoid getting submitted. In the third round her superior punching ability and pure aggression got her the win.

Shields record:
11-0-0-0, 2 KO in professional boxing
Former Unified WBA/IBF/Lineal Super Middleweight World Champion
Former Undisputed WBA/WBC/IBF/WBO/Ring/Lineal Middleweight World Champion
Reigning Undisputed WBA/WBC/IBF/WBO/Ring/Lineal Super Welterweight World Champion
2012 Olympic Gold Medalist
2016 Olympic Gold Medalist

And now:
1-0-0-0, 1 KO in pro MMA

Considering she has absolutely zero background in any style of kickboxing, wrestling, jiu-jitsu, or judo I'd say it's really impressive that she was able to walk into MMA and get a win. Her opponent wasn't a world beater coming in. Brittney Elkin, 3-6-0-0 in pro MMA, 1 KO win, 3 KO losses, 1 submission loss.

Unlike Holly Holm, who eventually transitioned into a full time MMA fighter, Shields plans to actively fight in both sports but focus mostly on boxing.

Another day, another stain on boxing in Britain.

Lewis Ritson, who was recently handed one of the most shameful robbery decisions I've ever seen against Miguel Vazquez, fought Jeremias Ponce today. Once again, Lewis was the hometown fighter and the favorite.

Ponce beat the shit out of him the entire fight. In the 10th he knocked Ritson down, and Ritson's own father and trainer threw in the towel. But referee Steve Gray did something I have NEVER seen happen in my whole life watching boxing: instead of stopping the fight, HE PICKED THE TOWEL UP AND THREW IT BACK OUT OF THE RING. He let Ritson go back out there and get knocked down two more times before he finally stopped it.

I can only assume the ref had cash on Ritson to win and wouldn't accept it when he clearly lost. Utterly shameful and disgusting. He actively tried to rob Ponce of the win he deserved and he could have gotten Ritson seriously injured.

No foreign fighter should ever agree to fight in the UK again. There is more corruption there than when Don King was promoting shows out of Trump casinos.

Boxing is making a huge comeback in popularity:
nCoQut1n

Ez_0wugXMAQwTHk

Surprising how low the numbers were for Boomers considering how huge boxing was in the 70s and 80s. That likely means that boxing promoters and governing bodies and all their bullshit actively ruined the interest of those fans as they got older.

MMA didn't make the chart but it's the #6 sport among GenZ.

Chavez Jr. Couldn't make weight again!
He is a joke. He gave up 100k for being two pounds over.

He'll most likely win, so being heavier will probably be the excuse for a rematch.

JCC Jr is such a joke. He has pedigree, he has ability, he has resources, he has the legacy of having one of the greatest of all time as his father.

But he's lazy, stupid, and has no heart. Every bit the opposite of his father.

Watched bare knuckle MMA tonight.

Charles "Felony" Bennett has found a new sport to lose in. In his last 16 professional combat sports fights, he's 0-16 and only 4 of those fights have gone the distance. The rest were knockouts or tapouts.

It includes an 0-11 mark in pro MMA, 0-3 in pro bare knuckle boxing, 0-1 in shootboxing, and now 0-1 in bare knuckle MMA. Maybe he could lose in regular pro boxing or kickboxing next.

Chavez Jr fucking lost

He clearly didn't train, gassed out in the 4th. I gave him the first three rounds easily but after that the 46 year old MMA guy ate his fucking lunch. What a humiliation for the Chavez family and boxing as a whole. Couldn't happen to a nicer spoiled shitbag idiot. I bet he didn't train a day for this fight, missed weight by over 2 pounds, lost to an old man with a 1-1 pro boxing record.

"I prefer that they retire if they are not going to prepare correctly. They do not prepare in the best way possible to fight," -- Julio Cesar Chavez on his sons Julio Jr and Omar, both of whom put on embarrassing performances on their PPV.

You know it's bad when your 58 year old father that should have retired 20 years ago is telling you it's time to retire.

Pac vs Spence will now be for the vacant Ring Magazine Championship.

Spence's IBF and WBC welterweight titles were already on the line.

The WBA is going to vote whether or not to hilariously go back on their decision to strip Pacquiao of the Super Championship for inactivity. In doing so they elevated Regular Champion Yordenis Ugas to Super Champion status, so the WBA is about to hose him just so they can get some of the purse from this Pac fight. Transparent as fuck.

The oldest combat sports publication in the world, Boxing News (established 1909) has officially dropped recognition of the alphabet soup titles. They no longer consider the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, or Ring Magazine championships to be legitimate world titles.

They now exclusively recognize the lineal championship as determined by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board:

This is good news. The lineal title has always been the one I considered most important, and the TBRB has been the most transparent and unbiased group keeping track of the lineage for a decade.

The only ways to win a lineal title:
1. Beat the current champion in the ring
2. If the title is vacant, win a fight between the top two ranked contenders as determined by the TBRB

The only ways to lose a lineal title:
1. Get beaten in the ring
2. Voluntarily vacate it or fail to defend it due to retirement, leaving the weight class, suspension, etc

The TBRB does not crown interim champions, they do not crown champions when the #2 fighter fights the #4 fighter just for the sake of convenience, they do not mysteriously shuffle their rankings around without a fight taking place, nobody with a vote has any affiliation with any promoters or active fighers.

Biggest fight of the year so far tomorrow.

Jermell Charlo vs Brian Castano for the undisputer super welterweight championship of the world.

Titles on the line:
Charlo's WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, and The Ring Magazine
Castano's WBO
Vacant Lineal

A true undisputed championship. As long as we get a winner, it will be only the seventh undisputed men's champion in the four belt era (since 2004): Bernard Hopkins, Jermain Taylor, Terence Crawford, Oleksandr Usyk, Teofimo Lopez, and Josh Taylor were the others.

And the best part is it's not even a PPV. The fight card will air on Showtime tomorrow at 9:00 PM Eastern.

Charlo is the slight favorite but it should be a great fight. Both guys will be the best opponent either has faced.

Pac vs Spence is off.

WBC/IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. has a partially torn retina and must have immediate surgery.

Luckily, WBA (Super) welterweight champion Yordenis Ugas was already on the card, scheduled to defend his title in a voluntary defense against Fabian Maidana (younger brother of former champ Marcos Maidana).

Now, Ugas will instead defend his title against Manny Pacquiao.

Honestly, Ugas should be the favorite here. But this is a Pacquiao fight and they might rob Ugas; they definitely robbed Ugas against Shawn Porter.
