Just wanted to give a heads up that today, tomorrow and Sunday is the first-annual 'Buy a Comic Day'. I know...the name is kind of a misnomer, but whatever.

Visit your local comic book retailer and do your part to help sales in a flagging industry.

Details

If you're in Houston, I'd recommend The Pop Culture Company. It's a small one-man operation, owned by a really nice guy who just loves comics and providing a really great neighborhood comic shop.

If you swing by, tell him I sent you :vik:

If you're not in Houston, go support your local shop!

I plan on catching up on some back issues of the current Batbooks, and maybe The Flash. Might even start reading The Avengers again.

Anyone else planning to participate?

how odd, considering I just bought some single issues comics out of the blue at the comic shop for the first time in well over a decade.

I might go to my local comic shop and raid their "bargain bin", I usually find some funny rejected-ass comics in there.

Maybe if they quit making so many goddamn "Death of" story arcs, the industry wouldn't need a "Buy a comic day"!

I just bought some Scott Pilgrim comics last week. I should be okay on the karma metre.

Thanks for the headsup.

It's too bad comics are struggling.

Though, I'm more of a Daniel Clowes kind of guy as opposed to a Jim Lee type dude, so I wont shed a tear if we never see another issue of the Starjammers...

Well I have been meaning to pick up some Fables, even though I've become more of a TPB person.

Don't worry. I might not be able to make it this weekend, I KNOW my dad and I will be hitting up Nan's when I visit Houston next month.

If my local comic shop sold porn they'd get more of my support.

It's not an industry initiative, it's a fan initiative.

Way to be constructive though.

And nice Taskmaster av.

I got a bundle of some Donald Duck comics for $1 at my local comic shop. I also picked up some Milk and Cheese reprints for cheap.

If this 'Buy A Comic Day' thing takes off, stores should consider hosting one every week.

Perhaps growing it into a continuous program that happens every weekday from open till close.

In all seriousness, if free comic book day isn't enticing people into stores for a single day to actually purchase something, simply having a "go buy comics" day isn't really going to fly. Especially when the people most receptive to it probably already go buy their comics every Wednesday already.

Nice!

I grabbed the last 2 issues of Wonder Woman today, a few back issues of Batbooks and a couple of TPBs.

^ Are you a Dorkin fan? I used to read Dork!, Hectic Planet and of course my favorite was Milk and Cheese. I remember as a kid, way back in the mid 90's when the only way to get SLG titles was through mail order catalog. Nice to see another Milk and Cheese fan.
