The PS2 Alpha collection was so much better.
I swear to god sometimes I feel like Billy Pilgrim because I read this post and thought "didn't that come out just a few years ago" and I looked it up. 18 years ago, yikes

The fact that I still feel that way should be telling.

This is why I keep my physical media.

Even if I forget to fire it up.

Even if I forget I have it.

Even if I forget it exists.

I will eventually remember that I forgot.

And that will lead to remembering that I still have it.

That will lead to me plugging in that old console and hooking up that old controller and playing that old game, an experience that can't be duplicated or replicated through emulators. It's not the same. That is antithetical to the very fundamental nature of nostalgia.

And if I play that game for no more than a half hour...

...then for a half hour, I got to go back, not to live in that place, but just to visit for a little bit.

That is the purpose of buying physical media. So that you have it in order to enjoy it in perpetuity.

Even if you never do, keeping that door open is worth the space it takes up.

I mean I feel the Fatal Fury collections both 1 and 2 on the PS2 were fucking solid to this day. Neo Geo CD soundtracks. Great control and literally no loading times. Was a badass pair of collections.

Except the US versions were censored.

And I don't think you could enter the code to enable the hidden super moves in Fatal Fury 3, because it involved pushing the start button, which on PS would just pause the game.

I never tried to be honest.
I just remember you hold all 4 attack buttons and press start when announcer dude says go.
Maybe you press select instead?
I know the code is slightly different for the CD version of the game because NGCD will soft reset if you press A+B+C+D+Start

Which sucks honestly. Games played great but in the damn era of Mortal Kombat games a little blood in 2D Fighters shouldn't be an issue. If there is a code for that I'd be fine with it. I always played Samurai Shodown II with blood on the AES version.

Fatal Fury 3 wasn't a blood issue, it was an extra secret attack that you could only use once per round. They were hard as fuck to pull off, honestly.

Yeah I'd forgotten about that shit. The only other game I recall with beyond fucking crazy hidden moves was Battle Arena Toshiden on PS1. The input commands for those hidden moves were beyond fucking nuts.
