I liked my 2030 for the time I owned it. Got the most comments from non-gamer friends on how cool it was. It's a head turner for the retro kids that don't know any better.

They are definitely aesthetically pleasing, just a complete PIA to work on.
I love how they look with the speakers, and the control panel displayed.

Okay, it's no PVM, but it still looks like a good CRT to me. I'm happy with my large consumer Toshiba, so it's all relative.

The xx30 series has to be the coolest looking line of PVMs that Sony ever made. They are instantly recognizable and pop up in a lot of 90s movies too. Great picture quality even though they don’t have the line count of later models. Really ahead of their time though for early 90s tech.

ACTUALLY... the Sony PVM-2030 is a PVM ;)

I think he just meant it doesn't quite stack up to the usual broadcast/doctor's office looking CRTs.

I thought the picture quality was good and better than the beloved JVC D-series consumer TVs but yeah, my other PVMs blew it away in sharpness and color.

This is just another tick for my autism lol all the monitors.
I love consumer sets as well, the Toshiba AF and my D series also look incredible. Sometimes I prefer playing on them because of the dark tinted tubes.
The Ikegamis and BVMs I have are really really sharp. IMO you have to like it that sharp.
But in order to enjoy the high TVL monitors you have to play in the dark, because of the grey tint on the tubes.

Looks very nice, what model is it? Do you plan to build a box around it or put it in a cab?

I might find a flat 17" VGA and put it inside.

This was one of those purchases that I didn't really need. But when I saw it in a warehouse in Italy in the past month, it got me sold. I really like how the colors pop out.

Model is a Trisync 3117D I believe.

I have a Sony PVM 2030 hooked up to my Superstation One MiSTer via RGB SCART. It probably needs some recapping and calibration, but it's pretty good as is for now. Plan to use it with AES+ when it comes.

The other CRT is some Emerson TV I got for free, composite only.

Both are around 20 inches, which is a nice size IMO. Not too small, not too big.

Started to finish my basement.
I finally made a nice area for most of my stuff.
I still have to finish the rest of the basement where I'm going to make a dedicated computer area next.
On the left Ikegami HTM1900R, 20M4U , 20M2MDU
In the middle 20F1U , XP29+ , and another 20F1U

I'd kill for a NEC XM29+

That and also that TeraDrive. Fantastic stuff

Don't wanna make fun of the guy who made this video (he's competent and he's got a lot of interesting stuff on his channel) and I don't wanna offend the people who actually own it, but this thing might be the most ridiculous CRT TV I've ever seen. Nothing about it makes sense: a Samsung CRT dedicated to gaming with a whopping 13" screen (!), no scart RGB or even S-Video input for the unlucky american friends, huge elephant ear speakers that double as doors, a subwoofer on the top (because why not), mounted on a ball like some VGA monitors. And a special GX Mode button that does... well, the fact is nobody knows what it does. I guess the audio sounds amazing, but this is definitely the Homer Car of TVs.

I've seen these in person a few times and they indeed do suck ass.

I think the thinking at the time was that 13" is ideal for 1-player gaming.

Probably... at the time, yeah. I grew up playing everything on a 14" Philips CM8833 and though I still love it to death for the picture quality, it's hard to go back to such a small screen (thankfully my sight is still excellent, so it's not about getting old). To me, the perfect size for playing up close on a desk is 17".
