I saw a video and it looks like Uber Eats: The Game™ with a minigame where you play mobile jenga with packages.

I just don't get it. People who play it online are raving about the community aspect of it, but it just isn't clicking with me. I wonder how many of these reviewers are praising it simply because it's a Kojima game, instead of taking it at face value.

Someone tell Kojima that, maybe he'll come back down to earth.

Quality of the game notwithstanding, props to Kojima for pulling a "I'll have my own casino, with blackjack, and hookers!" on Konami. I'll probably buy it just for support.

This is the first time I've watched a longplay of a current gen game. What really clicks with me is how it seemingly takes itself seriously but is utterly absurd.

Spoiler:
When Sam straps on his dead mother's body, and he's just grunting and traversing over the terrain with his mom's bagged body just swaying...I laughed at what a crazy idea it was.

It really is as much a movie as a game though.

MGS is like that too, the sneaking is fairly believable and then the cast rocks up and it all takes a turn for the cray. Cool movie -game though.

Kojima may have pulled a great practical joke on the industry in general and AAA productions in special, but he didn't reinvent himself a bit. It's still an odd, miniature gameplay with boredom as a sort of meditation, mostly during overlong cutscenes. He always liked his heroes to use stealth more than slaughter and gave you a 'like' for playing that way.

Always a bit misogyn with a creepy sense of humor, rather than making games with thought-out mechanics to uncover, he contrived interactive movies full of gimmicks – which actually were fun to play if you didn't take them too serious. Snatcher was his Blade Runner, MGS was his Mission Impossible and now Stranding is his Postman. The only innovation could be that this time his game is better than his source inspiration. Achievement unlocked.

MGS was his Mission Impossible

John Carpenter, on a company owning the rights to Escape from New York that wanted to sue Kojima: "[CanalPlus] wanted to also go after the video game Metal Gear Solid, which is kind of a rip-off of Escape From New York, too, but I told them not to do that. I know the director of those games, and he’s a nice guy, or at least he’s nice to me."

We probably all have our own opinions about Kojima's inspirations and yeah, Snake Plissken could easily have been one, though Kojima had denied this reference via Twitter, back then probably handled by an overcautious Konami executive. Anyway, cool interview, Sage, good to know that Carpenter is "living a great life and get to watch NBA basketball and get to play video games, so there's nothing" to complain about.

I really want to try out this game... but I'm one of those people who stays away from RPG's & prefers games that you can beat in a few hours(like the length of 1 or 2 movies).
The whole thing of doing all these deliveries is making me not want to buy it.....

If anything, I might just wait for the PC release.

So I just finished Death Stranding and what can I say? Interesting story with gameplay that left a lot to be desired. Kinda missed the mark Koji, try harder next time yeah?

Well a Silent Hills style horror game is in the works. Hopefully it's better than this let down. I had really high hopes for this game all the way back to the first trailer.

You can find a poster of the movie "Christine" (directed by John Carpenter) in the game. :thevt:

I went into this game extremely sceptical because it looked boring to be honest. And the story is Holy-shit-this-is-beyond-insane level with a lot of forced exposition (though less than Metal Gear's overly long cut scenes) yet somehow it totally grew on me because of this weirdness. Finished it this week and honestly have to admit this is one of the freshest experiences since I played demon's souls. Absolutely not for everybody but an absolutely creative and original game. Feels fresh and I love it.

Looks fucking shit. MGS1 is untouchable, MGS2 was basically a tech demo with some critical thinking thrown in, MGS3 was just fun. Everything since has been try-hard dog shit, kojima is the biggest hack in gaming. People lap up this shitty faux intellect nonsense like no tomorrow

Let's face it, DS is just MGSV's boring world with a new coat of paint and all that walking (sorry, sneaking lol) disguised as a hiking and balancing game.

The series peaked with MGS3 imo, Peace Walker ws also surprisingly fun. It also excecuted the whole "base building and choosing missions from a list" thing a lot better than MGSV.

I haven't finished yet so I can't comment on the experience as a whole, but up to the 2/3 point I wouldn't call it a walking simulator. The vast majority of the optional quests appear to require zip lines to get the best 'legend of legends' result which makes the game closer to being a zip-line simulator, if that's any better. :P

Edit: Finally finished. Most of the reviewers I've seen finish the game have glowing reports of the writing, but I thought the writing was convoluted and the game lost emotional impact because of it. The scenes that make you care about the characters are in the end credits and should have been in the middle, and there is too much technobabble and clutter throughout. The story and characters are good and Kojima is great at staging scenes, but the story needed a more cohesive framework and pacing.

That having been said, this game will still clean up the awards because of what it does at a technical level. Turn your camera in any direction, even when travelling at high speeds on a zipline, and you'll see the entire view off to the horizon accurately rendered. Trucks over a football field away, mountains, rivers, structures, everything. It seems like every 3D world nowadays attempts this and then uses tricks to prevent the character from looking everywhere or seeing beyond a certain point in the distance. This game puts them all to shame and it is telling that even its critics call it a 'simulator.'

Just started tonite. I'm about an hour in and have seen about 10 days of cut scenes and have no idea what is going on.

Ain't nothing wrong with a game that doesn't try to appeal to everyone (and we need way more of them in 2019) but his ego and pretentiousness just rubs me the wrong way so I really don't care about the game.

Agreed we need more risk takers in the industry.

I played for two more hours last night and still feel like I walked up to two people having a conversation about something monumentally important but they keep using acronyms and abbreviations constantly so I have no idea what the fuck they're talking about.

BBs, BTs, DOOMS, UCA, Chirylium, etc etc. I get that I'm only 3 hours in but you'd think they'd at least tell us WHAT happened to the world and how long ago it was.

It's not a bad game and I'm not not enjoying it. But it's just so damn weird and makes no sense. Society has collapsed because SOMETHING, and the only thing that can help anyone is.. an Amazon delivery guy?

Around 30 hours in it starts to make some sort of sense.
