The bonus content is almost assuredly some secret built in games like the ones included on the VS, plus some more online features. I'm sure they didn't include WiFi just for firmware updates.

Also, the bonus content is for all EXP systems, not just the limited edition black ones.

Summary of the Reddit AMA with the big wigs:
-There will absolutely not be a digital marketplace for Evercade. Carts are the only way they plan to distribute games.
-There will not be any premium priced carts.
-There will probably not be any 3DO, Saturn, or Jaguar games due to the poor emulation status of those systems and/or the power it takes to run them well
-They are still talking with Namco about licensing their carts for the VS
-EA was approached for a retro collection but refused
-There was an Activision Atari cart planned at one point but it fell through for unspecified reasons
-Hoping to release a Linux firmware updater before the next (and final) handheld firmware update
-Remote bug reporting will be a thing on the VS and EXP
-unspecified "online features" are coming for the VS and EXP
-The vertical mode is activated with a hard button on the EXP unit. Switch back and forth at will.
-The EXP can be used as a controller on the VS just like the original
-The mini HDMI port on the EXP is said to be more standard (I guess smaller mini cables had issues with the original)
-They went through two prototypes before settling on the current EXP configuration
-The "bonus content" they announced earlier will indeed be the same for the limited and standard editions of the EXP
-New accessories for all three Evercade models will be released
-Working on a Bluetooth controller solution
-More handheld collections are coming
-Some classic computer platform collections will be coming
-Blaze is considering developing their own Evercade game internally
-All future games will be required to work on the old handheld, provided the handheld is on the upcoming final firmware release
-Additional bonus games will be included on future carts to unlock with certain cart combinations on the VS

That's mostly good news.

I am not sure why they're bothering with Bluetooth controllers though. The controller, while not terrible, is the weakest part of the VS package. I already had 8BitDo PCE and SNES controllers for the minis, and I ordered a Retro-bit Genesis one to round them out. I guess they could try to beat them on price.

edit: On the other hand, I fully support handheld collections. That gives the EXP more value to me, because otherwise I may only play tate and license-limited games on it. I'm a Lynx fan, but I'd love to see Game Boy and Game Gear too. Hell, Game.com would be hysterical if licensing isn't a mess.

The 5,000 limited edition EXP handhelds are now sold out.

The standard edition goes up for preorder in September.

These are the only announced games between now and Irem/Toaplan, right?

Morphcat Games Collection 1 and Intellivision Collection 2 are both out now.

Currently checking out Micro Mages on the Morphcat cart. Pretty cool so far.

One of the Evercade people said on a podcast this week that there are two Commodore 64 collections coming. No word on the release dates or the game selection yet.

There's also supposed to be another cart announced next week.

After I recovered from the seizure the first 10-seconds gave me, I got really excited about that C64 trailer!

edit: I expect to be all in on the computer line like the arcade one. The console and indie lines are going to be more hit or miss.

I guess getting the Bruce Lee name was too much. Not that it really matters, it's just some text on the title screen.

They've apparently signed a contract with the people who put out the C64 Mini and the A500 Mini, so expect more Commodore and Amiga compilations.

Those are likely my two most glaring blind spots in all of gaming, so that's fantastic news. I've pretty much only played Amiga ports on Genesis and elsewhere.

Now that Blaze is a plug-n-play company, I look forward to EXP Konami Edition, Sega edition, Blizzard edition, etc, with no carts ever released so if you want them you'll have to buy a new console every time.

What the hell are you talking about?

This EXP was coming out either way.

So the choices are
A) Give everybody a bunch of free Capcom games with it
or
B) Don't give everybody a bunch of free Capcom games with it

And you're mad that they went with option A?
