Just having some fun with how I worded it ;). I think I've been positive enough in this topic that I can afford a joke. That being, there are now three devices released in three years, with a few subtle differences in what each can or cannot play (for example, VS adding the monthly indie download but losing Namco).

Full list of Capcom games on the EXP for those who are curious: (copy/paste from google search)

I'm much more interested in the Indie Heroes 2, Alwa's Awakening/Cathedral, Irem, and Toaplan carts. Full of games I've never played before or games that will make good use of the vert mode.

They confirmed in the comments that the VS will be getting a firmware update to have feature parity with the EXP.

The EXP release kind of snuck up on me, especially since I was a pre-purchase sucker so long ago (and ate the devalued Pound to Dollar conversion). I'm sure I'll have fun messing around with it over the holidays.

The guys who stole those are kinda fucked surely, aren’t they limited editions so will stick out like a sore thumb on Ebay? It’s basically all the Stock that was nicked.

Pretty much. It looks like domestic EU orders were going to a different warehouse so those are unaffected, but I have to think that number is small compared to Funstock supplying the rest of the world.

I finally got around to setting up the EverSD and loading the custom firmware on both my handheld and my VS. It's pretty cool, if not a little clunky to setup but works pretty well. Side effect: the VS can now load the Namco carts without patching the Namco carts themselves.

The best use of it is to add games that the Evercade already emulates. You can use the loader program to put games on it, it automatically scrapes for boxart and descriptions, you get the same options (or lack thereof) as official games. It's slick and it works well. You can also load a full Retroarch installation on it, complete with the UI that works but isn't totally user friendly. You get a lot more options, and some of the cores are better, but it can be a bit buggy depending on the core. PC Engine CD works great, Sega CD crashes, 32x is pretty decent, Mame sucks ass but arcade games running under Final Burn Neo are awesome. I was playing Mario Kart (SNES,) SF2CE, Progear, and Neo Turf Masters on it a bit last night.

Personally I set mine up for a few games I'll frequently play under the stock emulator and dumped rom folders on it for Retroarch for other stuff. I'm also fully aware of how stupid it is to go through the trouble of doing this instead of just using an existing emulator handheld.

Well the EXP is out, but my Amazon order didn't ship on time and they don't have a timeframe. People who ordered from tiny online specialist shops like Songbird got theirs, but Bezos is apparently too busy to ship mine.

One cool thing about the EXP is there is a permanent menu place for the secret unlockable games, so once you unlock them once you don't have to keep putting in the codes every time you want to play them like with the VS (this feature will eventually come to the VS in a firmware update, but we don't know when).

There are a few more recent secret games, so if you haven't checked in a bit look here for how to unlock which games:

Most of the listings for Evercade stuff on Amazon are third-party sellers, I've had terrible luck there. These days I'll only use Funstock.

I've found Amazon is only useful for stuff that's actually in stock and ready to ship. Still waiting on any notification about the Irem or Toaplan carts, but I'm not in a rush since I could always load them through nefarious means.

The EverSD is proving more useful the more I play with it. I'm on the Discord server and we've been getting more stuff to run on it like native games. Mame kinda sucks on it so I added Final Burn Alpha to the loader, which works awesome. Also, PC Engine.

Last night someone got CannonBall running on it, which is a port of OutRun with QOL features. It's fantastic. If you've got a Retroarch based device you should get this.

And I couldn't not put Doom on it.

The EverSD seems like a good choice to pair with the older handheld since you don't have to worry about updating the firmware anymore. New games on the EXP, romz on the old one.

Managing Director Andew Byatt said:
I have signed 11 new cartridges as of today with several more deals being negotiated as I write. We aim to bring you more variety, more big names, more hidden gems and games from other systems we have not yet seen on Evercade. We have some exciting things coming your way.

I have been kind of interested in checking out the VS console. One thing that has me cautious though is reports of it bricked during a firmware update. I understand that is always a risk with electronics. Has anyone here had an issue with that on the console or one of the handhelds ?

No issues here, have updated my handheld and my VS several times each.

Got a notice from Amazon that my EXP will be here in two weeks, so that's something.

My EXP arrival date has been moved up to January 13, but the Toaplan cart isn't scheduled to ship until January 30.
