Here's the press release from Anime On DVD. com:

V-DAY HAS ARRIVED.

"From days of long ago, from uncharted regions of the universe, comes a legend..."

Media Blasters is thrilled to announce its biggest release in the history of the AnimeWorks label. In conjunction with World Events Productions, we will be releasing the original, most beloved robot action animation ever
made...VOLTRON: DEFENDER OF THE UNIVERSE! Finally, after years of waiting, the series that captured the hearts and imaginations of children and adults alike will be available in special edition DVD boxed sets beginning in September 2006.

If you put together everything you love about anime, they form VOLTRON!
Before robot shows and Japanese imports took off on American TV, the world was introduced to a universe of mighty robots, growing monsters and big-eyed heroes through VOLTRON: DEFENDER OF THE UNIVERSE. With fantastical alien worlds, breath-taking action scenes, mortal combat, emotional characters, unique comedy and stark tragedy, VOLTRON went well beyond the imagination of most American "cartoons". For those who grew up watching it, VOLTRON provided the spark that set imaginations on fire and has earned its position as the show that brought a generation into Anime.

With nostalgic animated TV series seeing a resurgence on DVD, one of the biggest to ever hit the airwaves remains absent from the shiny format.
VOLTRON was the number one children's program in the United States during its initial run in 1984. And the nation hasn't stopped talking about it since.

VOLTRON continues to be shown on television throughout the world, appears regularly on VH1's "I Love the 80s" and Seth Green’s "Robot Chicken".
VOLTRON t-shirts and merchandise are available all over the world. Recently, comic books were published by Devil's Due and new Voltron toys were just released by Toynami this year. And with a blockbuster Hollywood film in the works from producers Mark Gordon (SAVING PRIVATE RYAN) and Pharrell Williams (N.E.R.D.), along with an all-new animation coming from Kickstart Entertainment, VOLTRON-mania is in full-force.

VOLTRON has grown into an object of fierce devotion and has become a part of the American lexicon. With Media Blasters' release of the series on DVD in September, VOLTRON will become the must-have DVD set of the year.

"Let's go Voltron Force!"

For more information and updates, visit http://www.VoltronDVD.com.

And for those that want Go Lion, the Japanese original, this is from the VoltronDVD.com website:

In addition to Voltron: Defender of the Universe, we are planning to release Hundred Beast King GoLion and Armored Squadron Dairugger XV on DVD starting next year. These releases will be completely uncut and in their original Japanese with English Subtitles. Warning: While Voltron is suitable for all ages, GoLion and Dairugger contain violence and other scenes that may be too intense for younger viewers. Please use discretion. Release dates for GoLion and Dairugger are not yet available, but they will be posted here as soon as possible.

The first set of 15 episodes (out of a planned 8 set release) comes out in the fall of 2006.

I'm not interested in Voltron, but I'll definitely be checking out the originals.

Now if only someone would announce Tranzor Z AND then uncensored/uncut Japanese language Mazinger Z/Great Mazinger/UFO Robo Grendizer...

GoLion and Dairugger! :buttrock:

Nice to see they're putting out the original versions uncut with original language. I'll skip on the Voltron DVDs but I'll snap up the originals when they come out. :)

Slightly off topic but does anyone have a "good" quality torrent of the fandub Voltron: Hell Bent for Leather?

LONG OVERDUE, but me thinks I'll just wait
now and pick up the original. Now if only
Media Blasters (or whomever) would just
release Star Warrior Bismark better
known as "Sabre Rider & The Star Sheriffs,
which like VOLTRON and GO LION are very
different... well then I'd dance a jig in a thong
ontop of a local beer sign.

But I know no such release will ever happen.

I used to love that show when I was little. I haven't seen the show in some time though, I might think it's kinda crappy now. But if it's cheap enough I'd probably buy it either way.

Ghetto packaging? Maybe on their cheap ass "collection" releases, but many of their normal releases have damn fine packaging.

Some?

There are still tons of shows I'd love to have on DVD. Too many to list and there are those odd ones that I forget about over time. :crying:

I think I read on tvshowsondvd that Jayce was one of the properties whose rights were close to being ironed out, so we may see some wheeled warriors at some point in the not too distant future. Did that dude ever find his dad?

Oh yeah, while we're at it, I also want 'Mysterious Cities of Gold'.

GoLion will be bought by me. I love buying 80's anime boxsets.

Voltron has just not aged well on the dub tip. I can't see myself buying it, when I was a kid and didn't know what uncut meant or how bad the dubbing really was it was fine.

I wish ulysses 31 would get an uncut japanese/us release as well.
