Because people get tired of buying expensive fight sticks they can no longer use when the next generation of consoles comes out every few months. There is now an entire generation of heathen savages who have grown up using dualshock or xbox controller analog sticks for fighting games, rather than d-pads, much less sticks. The decline of western civilization.
Adaptors for consoles can be purchased for less than half of the cost of a standard controller (Magicboots). The Qanba Obsidian, Pearl, and Dragon are all compatible with PC, PS3, PS4, and PS5 fighting games. Nearly 20 years of consoles covered out of the gate. Although to be fair, the PC gamers are the real winners since all sticks made by Qanba, Mayflash, Hori, etc. are PC compatible regardless of console designation.

Getting back to the topic, I'd love to see Wolfgang Krauser make a return as a secret boss. Poor guy has been on the sidelines for way too long.

If adapters are so easy, then why is my brother, who used his PS2 Hori stick for everything, now stuck playing the PS4 version of KOFXV? That's right, because the PS5 sucks for fight sticks.

Well maybe it's time his cheap ass finally gets a new stick?
Seriously though I was having the same issue.
Damn Sony and their hardware signing.
He could gut his hori and put a brook PCB in it then buy adapters to use with the retro consoles i guess.

I blame MK for this trend with its dial a combo garbage.

MK players are the ones who insist they NEED 8 buttons or more to play their game. It seems nobody's told them about button combinations (eg FP + FK = throw).

I Imagine most of them are probably filthy pad players as well.

Let me introduce you to a technology called usb
I know it's only recently been introduced since 1995 which is almost 30yrs ago
Look at you bragging you still have a computer with usb ports on it. Does it still have a cd drive, too?

Yep, and they look at the classic MK arcade button layout with utter disgust.
Yeah, okay, but who among us didn't, back in the day?

Whatever you think about any of the games, that button layout is stupid as shit.

The layout is perfect for the games it's designed for - classic MK, WWF Wrestlemania.. Even modern MK works well on it.

This stuff is full retard, a simple driver is all it would take if that. Way to go missing the whole point of USB in the first place :keke:

I don't recall the original MK having a run button.

Jon
It didn't, that began with 3. That's a "modern" fight stick just with an MK1 theme.

I always thought this layout was dumb regardless - and a 2D fighter with a block and run button just hurts my brain.

Basically yes.
I opted to build a new stick using an AFS enclosure and a brook universal fighting board fusion.
Stuffed it with a combo of sanwa & Seimitsu parts.
The only retro consoles I play on regularly are NEO•GEO & DC.
So I bought brook wingman adapters for both and can use practically any USB stick or pad made since the 360/PS3 with them.

Okay, but my brother's in Japan and doesn't solder, so a lot of good this does him.

I tried looking for a PS5 stick I could maybe give him as a gift, but I didn't find anything affordable that I felt confident in.

On my PS4 and PS5 I use a Hori stick with a switch that connects via USB. It works well enough for me but I'm not a hardcore player anymore so I don't really care.

This is the unfortunate truth.
You don't need to know how to solder with the brook boards, they all use headers and screw terminals.
You can buy a harness with all the spade connectors already attached even.
Honestly, all the money I've spent I probably could have just bought a PS5 ready stick.
THIS is probably the best PS5 bet for something pre made.
But as you've noticed it's near $200.
Sony really screwed us with its hardware signing, hopefully it will get cracked sometime soon.
If you have more questions I can try and help out.

Thanks for the recommendation. Yeah, upgrading everything to a new console can be pricey. Probably not worth it since neither my brother or I is willing to pay for the online service for our consoles anyway.

This doesn't go here but it's just too beautiful
I'm really surprised and impressed by the Terry they made.
I'm a little put off so far by City of the Wolves, it's just up to snuff when we're talking about FF and MotW sequel in particular.
I couldn't care less about SF6 either but the Cafe is nice and they pulled off the Terry feel very well indeed, he looks very decent and has that spark.

He looks good so far, except for that SDM.
That's kinda sketchy in my book.
If Mai ends up looking that good I might actually buy in.

That Pao Pao Cafe background makes the City of the Wolves stages look a little sad, unfortunately. Nice Joe cameo. Maybe Andy will show up in Mai's background.
