I like arcade mode. It's only seven fights, and you get the important parts of the plot. EOST feels like what you do to fill out the game for people who have more time.

I'll stick with the original Neo Geo games. Glad to hear it plays well, but the graphics do nothing for me.
Your loss dude. You really are missing out on a fun, deep game with some great story bits.

Remember when we used to justify playing Neo-Geo games in the very late 90s and early 00's by saying they weren't "just about the graphics"? Funny how now that's one of the exact reasons people stick to the Neo and refuse to give any of the newer games the time of day.

Some folks here are just too old and/or have families. It's as simple as that. This isn't the target market. I personally know all too well the feeling of wanting to watch something and relax before bed, as opposed to bothering to boot a modern console. If you're middle aged and still gaming hard, I tip my fedora to you.

This game is so fun it makes me want to be a kid again so I had more free time to play.

Granted, I do other things besides gaming so I spend a lot of time there, but my point still stands.

I'm also not sure what people are seeing that makes the game visually poor to them. Outside of the Train Stage and its wonky FPS disparity, I think the backgrounds are all great and the character models are solid.

Absolute banger soundtrack since you can just make your own with your favorite FF games/tracks with the Jukebox.

I 100% understand that feeling, and is a big reason why I don't invest much time and effort in getting all the mechanics down and "getting gud" like I used to. For this, KOF 14/15/Sam Sho, it's just been about the story bits and beating the arcade modes for me.

But aint nothing stopping us geezers from booting up a modern console to play some select games worth the investment of limited time and energy we have. This, and the other SNK games, are worth it IMO.

lol, I do not play fighting games for the story...

In the 90s sprite based fighters on the Neo, when done properly, had an incredible amount of warmth and charm, with the attention and detail that went into the characters. All I see with these modern fighters is an attempt to create an interactive manga style with lots of flashy lighting and strobe effects, and I jut don't like them.

So basically Capcom’s entire catalog of late 90’s/early 00’s fighters.

KOF and Fatal Fury had some flashy-ass moves with some strobe effects, especially the later Real Bouts and MOTW. Even Sam Sho 4 and 5/Special too.

But I do agree that modern games tend to lay it on pretty thick.

Wow, I think it's been about 20 years since I've posted here in the good old neo forums! I miss this god forsaken place. Just chiming in as I've been really enjoying COTW and wanted to throw my hat in for matches. After playing hundreds of hours of SF6, this game is a total breath of fresh air. Loving how the mechanics work, in particular it's really awesome to have some defensive options to get out of nearly any situation. When you start taking red parries (hyper defense I think they call it) into consideration, suddenly the skill ceiling starts vaulting upwards which is awesome.

Anyhoo, it's good to be back. So who's playing regularly and looking to level up? Iron sharpening iron and all that :D

Welcome back.

I've been playing with yagamikun and actually said you could whip me into shape so I'm totally down for games.

I think it looks awful too tbh. It's like they never saw the original characters before and just played it by ear
I don't know what game you're looking at. They all look great and accurate to their character designs.

Are the original game soundtracks in the jukebox remixed or remastered? They sound great!

No remixes or arranged versions of the music - it's all the OSTs from the arcade. They do sound good, but I don't think it's known how SNK handled the implementation. Can only really guess.

That said, in the "Other SNK Games" category, there are some great remixes of classic tunes from other games that used tracks from FF or AOF. Dragon Flame God and Big Shot from SNK Heroines especially sounds great.
