I took the XDm out to the range today to break it (and myself) in a bit. Now, with this said, I am an amateur shooter. I have shot nearly every caliber of firearm there is durning my time on this earth but I don't go to the range enough to be considered an expert.

I had a Taurus PT1911 in .45 before the SA but wanted a gun with more capacity and less umph. Call me what you will but an afternoon of firing .45 through a 1911 it would take a toll on my hands.

I gladly picked up the XDm last week based solely on expert reviews. I had shot the XD in 9mm, .40 S&W and in .45...I liked the gun but not enough to buy any of them. I read that the "m" line fixed many of my complaints and decided to jump on one. My first time out, first magazine I was able to get a decent 2" group at 20'...well within the IPSC "A" scoring group. I wasn't happy with my performance but I am new to the firearm and I was dumb enough to enjoy a double espresso before I left.

By the time I cleared 100 rds I had it down to a nice tight 1" group. Believe me, if this gun can make me look good, it can make most look good. I know how to handle/shoot a firearm but I'm in no way an amazing marksman.

The trigger on the XDm is precise, short, clean...whatever other thing you want to fill in, it's near perfect out of the box. I had a full trigger job on my 1911 with a comp STI trigger and reworked internals...the stock trigger on the XDm was surprisingly close. No slop what-so-ever, short pull...very clean. If you have a chance, go to a local gun store and try it out, you'll see what I mean.

My only complaint is the back strap. The medium that comes on the weapon is too large for my hand, in time I felt as it it was jabbing my palm. Thankfully you can swap it out and I will do so before returning to the range. I applaud SA for making the back strap replaceable and including a S, M, L set in the case (the double mag pouch, holster and magazine loader is also pretty sweet). They really listened to composite frame owners complaints on that one...that something I hear owners bitch about all of the time.

All-in-all....this is one amazing firearm. Straight out of the box it is smooth, clean and groups better than I can shoot. In 9mm you have an amazingly high capacity (19+1) and the 9mm round itself is not tiring in the least bit, unlike my 1911 I could have shot that XD for hours...the ammo is just too much $$ at the moment. Hell, it even made a believer out of my father who is a Hi-Power fanatic.

This is the first composite frame handgun I've ever owned and I can easily say, I don't regret purchasing it one bit. The only way I'll ever shed this thing is if SA releases a XDm+ or XDm2 or whatever they dream up to trump this gun like it has the standard XD.

perfect time for this thread to pop up.

i hate guns, so i was looking to pick one up. I shot my friend's Glock G22 a couple times and felt comfortable with that one. Do you guys use local shops to browse? magazine? websites?

My first question is if you hate guns why would you consider owning one?
Otherwise, Living in St. Louis i'm surprised you have not heard of this place.

http://www.bullseyestl.com/

They are a bit on the high side price wise, but they know what they are talking about & do rentals so you can try several hand guns out.

Added a few things this week....

Bought a Streamlight TLR-1 weapon light to my XDm9...I think this will now play the primary "zombie defense" role in my home now (I keep it loaded with some 124gr Hornady TAP FPD ammo most of the time).

Picked up a new forend grip for my 870. The stock I bought came with one but it was a pile of shit (funny as the rest of the stock is pretty good for the $$) so I needed a replacement that would stay put.

If anyone wonders, I broke my wrist badly some time ago and the action of pumping a shotgun hurts like hell...the forend grip really helps with that...thats why I have one.

I have been wanting to get one of these for some time. If I can find one at 799, I'd jump on it.

Smokehouse, the XDm looks better and better. Congrats on that. I said before that I preferred the stock fore end on the 870, but if it helps you run it better, than great.

My father bought a retired state cop 870 so I gave that stock to him...I have to day the cushioning is WAY better on the original stock...

I'll probably land up getting a real tactical stock from Knoxx some time soon...that will take the bite out of it.

Man...I was popping off some 00 buck today, I had various types but the Win Super X 3" beat the fuck out of my shoulder...

If you are serious about getting a FiveseveN try and find the single action model.
The DA ones have piss poor triggers IMO.

Heh.

Some gunporn I guess. The Sokolovsky 45 that just went for 6.5k on gunbroker.

Not too crazy about it, but I'm a fan of the clean lines and concealed hammer. No shitty little widgets or loose parts, buttons etc. Even the mag release is controlled from within the trigger guard.

I don't know what it was about the 70s and 80s but the best handguns came from around that time.

Thanks smokehouse, I just got a Mossberg 500 persauder 8 shot, I see these 6 piece kits floating on the net for a decent price but no pictures of how they look installed your pic gives me a rough idea.

Hey Tonk have you fired that shotgun much? Id change out the pistol grip..looks cool though. Im no expert, in fact Ive only fired shotguns a few times but I remember it having an unfortable amount of kickback. In fact one time I went to a range and there was this Indie beat cop with me she fired more than me... but damned her shoulder and whole right side were a giant bruise the next day. Thing had a thick ass pad on it too. I dont think Id like to fire it (your shotgun) more than twice in a row. Now yeah 2 shots should take care of business but Id think the grip will slighty decrease accuracy, even though its not as important on a shotgun. Hopefully you wont end up like that Arab dude in the one video firing a rifle in his radio studio, while your trying to stop a home intruder.

I never understood why anyone would install a laser on a shotgun.

Looks great though.

Beware that front grip...its a piece of shit. I bought a better one from midwayusa for cheap...MUCH better quality:

http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productnumber=351594

The one it comes with has a crummy set screw that will come off with a few pumps, it just can't take the abuse. The other one is a brick shithouse.

Sadly, I'm selling the 870 to a buddy and getting this:

Mossberg 930 SPX 7+1 semi auto...I'll order the one with the pistol grip rear though...

That's pretty nice looking. I'm looking at what I can do to my cheap Win 1300 right now.

I shot my LCP for the first time last weekend. 100 rounds went with fine with only one failure to fire. I took some flitz and polished the ramp a little so I hope that'll make it feed smoother. It's hard to remember to put my keys in the other pocket after all these years.

That is so completely absurd.

Yet, completely 100% awesome.

I need to buy a handgun soon.

You would've loved Deathwish 3.... he pulls out a belt fed Browning AN M2 and sprays an alley full of gangsters with it while a little mexican dude follows him with the box of ammo lol.
