Well, all dreamcast games that can be used online, can use a 56k connection. Only a handful can use the broadband adaptor. Personally, because most dreamcast games use phone connections and my lack of a lowspeed ISP, I really don't bother with dreamcast games online. I know Spam King EX has experience with the dreamcast online though. Perhaps he will grace us with his opinion.

hey, me and a few guys at work play the sports games online. they work ok, some slowdown here and there, but u get used to it. you must get a keyboard if your going to do it. also, sega charges 10 bucks a month to play, not including your isp. you can use free isps, but it gets tricky. hmmmm, i think that answered most of the questions. btw, i use 56 k too. oh, as far as putting in all that stuff for your isp, u only have to do it once, the dc saves it to internal memory. c ya

Call your ISP to get all the details.

I was a telecommunications major in college, so naturally I tend to like games online, especially console games. Too bad the DCs online capabilities weren't as good as say, the Sega Channel or Xband.

IMHO, not many games play very well online.

I've played
Tetris:Net Edition
4X4 Evo
Phantasy Star Online
Bomberman Online
Worms World Party
Alien Front Online
Quake III

Online.

I will rate them all online with 1-4 *. One star being terrible and 4 stars being a great game to play online.
Let me preface this by saying that I live in a rural area where phone connections are not so hot. Connections may vary depending on where you live.

Tetris:Net Edition **
Great connection speed, but it's a matching service, which means you can only play ppl of your skill level. I don't think you can play vs ppl at a higher or lower skill level. This limits how often you can play online. It's not the best tetris around either, IMHO.

4X4 Evo ***
Plenty of players online (Cross net play with mac, DC, and PC), and good game engine. The only thing that keeps this game from being a perfect net experience is the horrible chat interface between races.

Phantasy Star Online **
If you would have asked me how this plays online 9 months ago, I would have given it 4 stars. As it stands today, PSO is a wasteland. If you like to get PKd, and if you like starting your character over when you discover your traded wpns/items are hacked, knock yourself out. V2.0 is supposed to fix these problems with tighter network security and a pay-to-play structure, but I don't care anymore. I've heard JP players won't even play with Americans because of our overuse of Gamesharks, etc. Not only does it make PSO a bad game, it makes us as Americans look bad. Too sad. This game had so much potiental. Oh well, there's always Gamecube.

Bomberman Online *
Now here's another one with tremendous potiental that just didn't work. Where do I start? Well, the first time you play, you will notice that connections are horrendous at best. Disconnects, failure to log-in, even with the correct settings, are common. And don't forget heavy lag during the game. And even if you do manage to hold a solid connection, the online play options are limited to stardard battle mode and fetch-the-orb mode. They axed all the fun modes (sub, ring, and paint) online. With the great menu interface and ability to play bomberman over the the internet, this game could have gone far. Instead, it's just another online DC disappointment.

Worms World Party ****
Now they got it right. Action/Strategy where you destroy obstacles and the opposing team with wpns like sheep (?!), bazookas, grenades, and guns. Great fun on or offline. Menu interface is a little cumbersome, but you'll get the hang of it in time. The only downside: not too many ppl are online. When I play this online, there are usually no more than 5-6 playing. Give it a try, if you can find it.

Alien Front Online **
An average third-person shooter. Connections on this game aren't the best, with frequent lag and disconnects. The Voice over IP is a cool feature. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Voices are loud and clear one minute, and garbled and scrambled the next. VOIP is supposed to be used to co-ordinate your team, but it is rarely used by players. Give it a try.

Quake III
Its been awhile since I've played this online with DC, so I will not comment. Anybody else have any details on this one?

Whoa! That was long, but I hoped it helped.

I was playing Unreal Tournament on Thursday, strange cause I thought you had to pay to play now, maybe the maps were on a different server. Anyways I enjoyed it, compared with 56k gaming on a PC theres not much difference, you will get lag, it's a given, but it ain't that bad.
Online gaming on the DC was great, no patches or drivers, just connect and play. I've not really played anything except PSO and Unreal since sega started to charge for online play.

Daytona USA was great fun online. Daytona on DC was a great game on DC regardless. I love that game! Im glad we finally got a ahome version that was better than the Saturn Versions. The gameplay is touchy but you get used to it. It plays very similare to the arcade version if you go manual. Trust me. THis is a must for hardest of core Daytona Players.

Online, no one has ever beat me in Dinosaur Canyon. Ever! No One! I suck at all the other tracks.

My school has a Daytona Machine, that is set to the high est laps and on my first year, I would always play the Dinsaur Canyon Level.

My main problem with DC online gaming, or all online gaming actually, is that a majority of the people who play online are total idiots They use all caps, curse relentlessly, and often disconnect during a game if they're losing. I must say that I have yet to sign on to Daytona USA and find anyone worth playing with who wasn't a complete jerk.

PSO is perfect online, as long as you know people to play with. Playing with strangers is often not a smart thing to do becuase there are lots of GameSharkers and they ruin the fun.

I never have problem connecting to games online. However the only online games I have are ChuChu Rocket, Daytona USA, and Phantasy Star Online (yes I know... BMO will be mine eventually...)

I loved PSO back before all the hacking took place. When it first came out, it was pure gaming bliss. Honestly when of my fondest video game memories I'll ever have. Then... the hackers moved in, and now it sucks. <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0"> Sigh. If only they wouldn't have taken over.

Daytona USA is GREAT online, as well. You can only use 4 players at once, but the interface is just fantastic. I'm not sure how many are on any more, but it used to be just kick ass.

Quake 3, if you don't have a computer, rocks online as well. Only 4, which sucks, but the fact that there were servers that had neat cheats like rapid fire weapons was great. Of course I now live in a house with four computers (all which have Quake 3 on them), so I haven't the need to play that on DC anymore.

I've played a few others, but nothing as good as these three. I haven't been online with my DC in quite some time. But I say again, playing Phantasy Star Online was just too sweet. I even remember playing with a few people on here!
