haha, that was seriously the only thing that came to mind when trying to describe it, all I could think of was "sounds like the soundtrack in a david lynch film" if I could chill in a black and white universe and smoke a cigarette, your music would be the perfect soundtrack.

I haven't recorded anything in forever. Been mostly playing jazz and jazz shows.

A Zelda medley I did a long time ago:

Oh, and something I recorded at 6 in the morning, with only a guitar and a keyboard, after a couple bottles of Crown:

Dope! I'm gonna take a tame guess, that you aren't using a drop tuned 7string for Jazz work.

What sort of rig you running for these shows?

created a soundcloud account out of computer crash paranoia....

Just uploading random parts and half songs to keep the creative process going. At some point this year we'll play our first live show I'm hoping!

I decided to rework an old eurodance track "masterboy - show me colours". my version has heavy 303 & no vocals.

if you care to give it a listen: https://soundcloud.com/cylotron/cylotron-90s-dance-303

303 it ain't but it sounds good anyway :D ;)

The track (specially the bassline) reminds me of "Living on Video" by Trans-X.

Do you use a DAW/computer to make music? If you're looking for a mean little analog bass and drum synths, get yourself a Korg Monotribe, it's inexpensive and gives your sound a lot of personality. Much better than any plugin.

hi ! ....

sadly i've just been using fl studio so far, but have installed dozens of vst's & have nearly 10gb of .wav samples(drums, hats, etc).

i just got back into music production a few months ago. before that i had not done anything period since around 98 - 99. back then i remember using fl studio as well as cakewalk. i also had a jx-305 & an sp-808 (sold them both long ago though).

i do feel a bit restrictive just using my keyboard/mouse so i do want to get some sort of decent(inexpensive) synth. i will look into that monotribe! ^_^

i totally want a monotribe too, it looks like you can even mod them for about 60 bucks to have midi support.

might be next on my list of musical toys since I just finally finished replacing all the tact switches in my MPC, now it only looks ghetto and busted! but functionally it couldn't be more minty :)

haha you make some crazy noises man, I always dig the vibe. good stuff.

I've really not finished any tracks in awhile myself, mostly just experimenting and practicing, but I have thrown up some small loops of unfinished ideas and shit I might as well post.

I'm not sure if this is complete... but I have no idea where else to go with it if it's not.

for years I wanted to watch the anime film spriggan, it looked so awesome but I couldn't find the dvd locally and at the time I never ordered online, I finally found it cheap and it came with a soundtrack cd, I never really liked the movie...... but the soundtrack CD got put to a little use here at least :)

this was just a attempt at sampling a piece of public domain classical music and try to make it sound as far from the source as possible

Just a little experimenting from today, got tired of messing with it and decided to just throw the loop online and take a break.

This may be only news to me so I appologize if this is common knowledge but I was excited to learn today about MIDI carts for the NES! a cart that has a midi input on it that allows you to play the NES's soundchip with a midi instrument! There is one on kickstarter that seems to be reasonably priced but I think I discovered it at the wrong time as it seems all the 50 dollar donations to actually receive a cart are gone and I don't see any other ordering option just yet.

there is also this other one that seems quite pricey and I've heard the fella that makes em is not too reliable.

but he certainly has a cooler website :)

Just learning of this possibility I also was interested if something similar has been done with my other consoles, I didn't find much but I did find this genesis one.

but it seems it's no longer available either :(

There's a similar cart called MSSIAH for C64, bought it a couple of months ago for €49 (about $63), check it out here: http://www.8bitventures.com/mssiah/ . It's still available as far as I can tell. The package contains the cart and a cool sequencer/synth software.

Excellent stuff.

If you want true video game-like sounds, buy a Yamaha FB-01 FM synth and a Philips PMC100, they're both cheap and really wonderful machines.

However, you don't really need special hardware for that nice lo-fi sound if you have a sampler or sampling program that is capable of downsampling to 8bit/2KHz. Try it with some standard square wave samples, FM basses or drums, et voila, there's your ung-tshak-ung-tshak-diggadiggaduggadump sound of the early 80s.

Sometimes I use my Ensoniq Mirage for that purpose. Best old sampling synthesizer ever made, can't go wrong with sampling + juicy Curtis analog VCF and VCA.
