as a disinterested party, I erally don't see the big deal with those screen shots. what's so special about this that you didn't have in 4evo?

Two new characters, and three or four new moves for the existing characters is the big draw. Plus everything is in widescreen format now.

More tweakage and spiffy new backgrounds to round off the package.

I tried to get into VF when Evo came out, but it just didn't hold my attention. If they were porting 5 for the 360 then I might pick it up, but I certainly wouldn't buy a PS3 just for it.

I understand why people love VF so much, it's certainly a well made 3-D fighter. But I can't say I've ever played any of them for more than an hour or so. Way to much shit to learn to even be halfway decent at the game.

Yeah, it's almost too late to get good at it too. The people who are really good at the game have been playing it since 2 or 3, so they've already mastered the 2,347 moves that each character has.

No matter how much I practiced at Evo I'd just get my ass handed to me each time at the arcades by one of these guys.

I guess that's my problem then. I never got too into it. The last time I played VF was VF2.

I even bought VF4; Evolution a couple years ago with the hope that I might get good at it. But after playing it and remembering just how complicated some of the stuff is, added to the fact that I have no one to play the game with, the motivation disappeared quickly.

Third Strike has the kind of depth I like in a fighting game. Not exactly easy for new players to get into, but not so hard to just drive you away after a short time. Plus I could play it on Xbox Live, which was pretty fun.

VF3tb was the last in the series that I played much at all. I became bored with 3D fighters at some point, and though I have games like VF4 Evo, Tekken 4, DoA4, etc., I've barely played any of them. The VF series was always my favorite, though. I played the original VF, VF2, and then Virtua Fighter Remix for hours and hours, but I just can't seem to get excited about a new 3D fighter anymore, even one in the VF series.

VF 5 is an excellent update. It's not the dramatic jump from 3 to 4, but it's awesome. I spent about 5 hours at TGS on the PS3 build they were showing. It was really spot on, the graphics pretty much looked exactly like the arcade. The game has changed a lot since VF4evo, Lau has all his moves from Evo with a completely new set of movement type moves and attacks. They didn't shrink away form making the game hardcore, just added more moves and made it a bit more complex.

This game is a system seller for me, but the system is just damn much right now. Maybe in a year or two I'll get this.

Virtua Fighter is GOD among fighting games.
Its so deep and supremely excellent.
VF5 is a system seller the likes of which the 360 will NEVER have. I'd count the PS3 cheap if no game other than VF5 ever came out.

Tsuka, youre just sore that Jake kept winning :p
Me too, but i still love VF.

The thing with Virtua Fighter that throws many people off is that you really need to dedicate yourself to one character, preferably the one that matches your playing style. While each character has a fair number of moves, some of them require a shitload of practice to master the timing. In a game like Tekken I tend to mix it up between several characters, but in VF I stick to one or two.

VF5 is amazing btw, and if that were the ONLY game coming out on PS3, I'd be sold. I finally got to play it in October, as none of the "arcades" in my town carry it. I played it at Club Sega in Akihabara, and I got my ass handed to me. I guess some of the top tier players hang there, and I went up against a few. I didn't even have a VFnet card or anything, I was just trying to play the computer in peace away from the usual crowds, but someone would always come up and challenge me. I played a guy with a vicious Sarah, and he sidestepped like a mofo.. something I wasn't used to.

So yeah, VF is an acquired taste if you're new to it, but I've been playing since it first hit arcades back in the 90's. I still have yet to master a character though. :crying:

what he said.

and yes the key is to stick to one character and actually practice.

I put over 200 hrs into 4evo and only learned about 3 characters to some level of proficiency. You really need patience and dedication to get to a level where its fun.

I can attest to this.

I've probably put 200-300 hours into the series over the years, and I can play one character confidently.

Needless to say, I'm eagerly anticipating VF5.

if you don't have anyone to play this with at home and no arcades nearby to use your home honed skills on then what's the point in buying this game?

no iirc that's why it's not going to be on the 360 coz it isn't going to be online.

there was some statement made by sega again iirc that vf would never be online coz online can't offer arcade perfect gameplay in terms of response time which would make the fans (frame counters) unhappy.

I doubt it. Yu Suzuki has gone on record in the past as saying that VF is too precise to put online- any lag at all would be a major problem.

He's right.

And @beelzebubble: Shirley, you can't be serious.

Well that sucks, I heard the reason why its on PS3 is because the lindbergh and the PS3 both use Nvidia GPU's so it was easier or something.

Why is the percentage of posts by expatriates living in Japan so high?

Seriously, for some reason that really hit me here.
