I really haven't been following this tech for years...

What's a good one to get. I just recently saw the Ipad Pro and they want like $2000+ for it. Not sure i want to spend that much on that.

Looking for the same size(12.9") or larger.

What are you going to be using it for?

Edit: for me, if the answer is browsing and watching video then there's no need for an expensive one at all, a $300 max tablet will cover that with ease, cheaper even. If the answer is anything more than browsing and watching videos then the answer is get a laptop.

That's just me though.

I thought the iPad Pro started at a 1000. Only gets super expensive when you go lte, 1tb version. And of course all the accessories like the keyboard and Apple Pencil and apple care.

Damn, are people actually spending that kind of money on a tablet?

My kid is the only one who uses a tablet in the house. Never really got into them. Much rather have a nice laptop for that kind of money.

Like Steve said, if just for browsing/email/porn, then any cheap tablet will do and the price range is all over the place. If you need to do some actual work, and you need it to be a tablet, then the MS Surfaces are great. But you could get a similarly sized sized, decent laptop for 1/2 the price of that.

Personally, I just go with Amazon tablets, just make sure you either get the no ad version or figure out how to hack it away. They're on the low end of things compared to a lot of others, but they give the best bang for the buck. IMO if you're going to go over $200 or so you might as well get a more capable device like a 2 in 1 laptop or something.

In looking at prices, you are jumping up a lot of you truly need around 13”...unless you get a really basic model. Otherwise for the price, GohanX is spot on about a 2 in 1 is much more power for the money.

That’s if you buy it direct from the website... the middlemen selling HDC his stuff have families to feed.

If you're not a graphics pro, you don't need an iPad Pro. If you want something 12" or larger, AFAIK, your only option will be an MS Surface. I think the low end version goes for $600. Maybe it will go on sale in a few weeks for a bit less.

You really got to describe what you are doing with it.
It's also nice to stay with the same ecosystem as your phone. Not required, but sometimes it makes things seamless.

I needed a cheapass Windows machine and ended up with a tablet, because it was... well, cheaper than anything else.

Honestly it's very functional for being a real, complete PC that retails for $130. It's basically nothing but an Intel Atom with a screen, so all the hardware is well-supported. I haven't tried running Linux on it (for once I do need Windows) but it boots a plain-looking 32-bit AMI firmware that doesn't appear to be crippled. Performance in Windows is... a lot better than I was expecting. Windows appears to be stock, too - no crapware aside from the Microsoft crapware. I installed STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl on it and it holds its framerate pretty well.

Surface is a great way to go if you want a work machine. I have one through work and it's great at that. Shit at entertainment though.

If you can wait, Target will have the 9.7 inch ipad for $250 on Black Friday. $100 off.

He's just buying statues, we all know that. $2k for a tablet is insane. My giant iMac and Wacom cost about $200 than that.

I have a Panasonic ToughPad. I like it a lot. It's got better specs than my laptop. It runs a full distro of Windows 7. I bought it used since it was a good deal. New they were like $2800. I wouldn't buy any tablet for that kind of money. I would rather have a nice desktop for that amount.

Is that MSRP or special pricing from Ed (Asst Manager) at Best Buy in Crestwood, IL?

Laugh all you want about that shit, but they ended up hooking me up, and Ed hasn't been in the store in months.

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/apple-...llular-1tb-space-gray/4905600.p?skuId=4905600

Its $1899 at best buy but i guess there is one cheaper for just the wifi & that's 1749.

Still got to get the keyboard $199 & the pen is $129 & throw tax that's another $200.

So do you need the Apple keyboard for $199? Otherwise just a bt keyboard for significantly less?

Also- if you need all that stuff it sounds like you need a laptop/ convertible 2-1 machine and not necessarily a tablet.

Get a nice i5 Lenovo yoga 2 in 1 for like $600 and you'll be happier.

Ed probably didn't want to be put on Twitter blast like a donut shop that shorted an out of towner 2 donuts so he moved on.
