What would it be? I've been interested in picking something up for a while and have considered the classics like Jam, TMNT, Wrestlefest, Aliens, but I can't help but think that's too narrow a net.

Your personal favorite or just a rec or both would be very helpful.

Generic candy cab with Same3 pcb

...in all seriousness, a well calibrated Point Blank or Time Crisis cabinet. I don't think I've ever got bored of those games despite billions and billions of hours put into each

NBA Showtime / Blitz sports station

Great crowd pleaser. Rosters are old but gameplay is still fun as fuck.

If I truly needed to choose one, it would be an Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 cab.

Always wanted a big red and a 4-player Konami cab. Not uncommon cabs. I got a 4-slot big red so I'm probably good. Wouldn't mind one candy cab.
You mentioning a big red reminded me of my other actual grail. Neo mini.

Almost had one for $1500 but the buyer I was hoping would back out didn't.

I mean I would've said a Ms. Pac with a speed chip for many years but I've gotten too lazy for the maintenance and repair work so I'll just say a Vewlix Diamond Black with a crisp new 1080p monitor.

Given that @jro mentioned specific games and not cabinets, I don't think Viewlix or MVS are in play. Assuming that is true, I agree with those that would take advantage of a more specialized cabinet like racing or light gun games. I'd also take into account availability on other platforms, so arcade exclusives with special cabinets. I'm thinking F-Zero AC or maybe even something crazy like House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn.

This is pretty much dead on. I really enjoy the stuff that's on Red, Viewlix, Egret, Astro, etc. but I kinda prefer something dedicated.

Where I'm at right now is a small space in my home office that will fit at best two smaller cabs or one sit-down. Outrun, Afterburner, and Space Harrier would all be really nice but take a lot of space.

The light gun games are very intriguing, I really loved every single one mentioned and I might fit two?

Might be losing some motor function, having something to get me up and use my left hand would be really helpful.

I mean once you have it hooked up there's barely any maintenance. I have a cocktail with a Ms Pacman/Galaga FGPA board and it's running solid and easy to maintain (if ever).

A full Derby owners club setup. There was arcade in a seaside town I go to every year and until recently had DoC 2000 and 4 stations. I bred some zebra horse one time. Just a full experience.

Just make sure to smoke while you play and keep a 2L plastic bottle of green tea next to you for that authentic feel.
