Interesting story.

That's quite shocking.

I'm so used to say "indiana pacers" that I can't imagine an other city linked to that team.

Well... the Los Angeles Lakers and, somehow even more absurdly named Utah Jazz seem to have adapted well (Minneapolis/New Orleans, respectively).

You want to talk about a city where basketball bombed, San Diego has lost not one, but two teams. The San Diego Rockets and the San Diego Clippers. The average attendance for them was 4,500 a game. That's just pathetic.

Haha, I was thinking the same thing. NBA in San Diego? Right... (though Pat Riley probably still has his San Diego Rockets jersey).

St. Louis anyone?

Ick... But that's just from a "I'd like to visit" mindset. (same for KC)

I know Las Vegas would really want a team, but the NBA (and other major leagues) say they'd only consider it if the casinos agree to allow no bets on the entire league --not just the home team (at least that's what I remember hearing when LV held the All Star game a few years back).

Why not put a team in Mexico City? They could definitely support it (in a city of nearly 30m, there will be people who can afford NBA tickets), and they're a good market for basketball. Or just go and throw a team in Europe. Its not like our teams are struggling too badly with finances.

Hey maybe you can be the GM and then your first promotion could be "Gay Marriage Night."

You could give little statues away of two men in shorts kissing.

Just a thought.

In Vancouver?

Just make every night "Needle Exchange Night"

Neither KC or STL has a team...

What about the Kings...oh wait...they're in Sacremento. The Hawks...oh yeah...in Atlanta now. That's what I get for living in the past :loco:

Well...there's always Buffalo or San Diego...er...a...OOPS!!! :make_fac:

people have more disposable income to spend on tickets. Just a thought.

ok, maybe i only lived there for 3 years (i have no idea how long you've lived there), but from my experience:
no, they sure as hell don't.

but it would be awesome to have another canadian basketball franchise.
can't think of another city that could support one.

.

Amazingly enough, the Pistons didn't start out in Detroit.

Unfortunately, the Syracuse AAA baseball team is sticking with the name "Chiefs" (nowdays using a train as a mascot rather than Hiawatha) despite being affiliated with the Washington Nationals.

Other cities I thought that could work well for NBA expansion/relocation are:

Louisville - would be only major professional sports team in Kentucky, has 1.2 million in metro population, another area that Louisville could be serving is Cincinnati similar as to how Orlando Magic also serve the Tampa Bay area market, also had more support in their ABA team, Kentucky Colonels, over the Indiana Pacers especially financially

Hampton Roads - Population of nearly 1.8 million, had supported an ABA team in the Virginia Squires (Dr. J's and George Gervin's first team), also far enough from D.C. to be their own team (3 hour+ drive).

Montréal - huge population, basketball has been becoming more of a worldwide sport in popularity and would be appealing to Québécois IMO

yeh, i thought so.
but i guess we traveled in different circles, 'cause everyone i know either wouldn't or couldn't pay the cost of a "professional" game consistently.

They could bring back the Virginia Squires or the Baltimore Claws. Just a suggestion.
