Fantastic album, and it still sounds fresh today.
If you haven't yet, pick up the Deluxe Edition 2 disc version and listen to the entire album in 5.1 surround.

i can't believe it meant that much to you to make this thread!... ;0

back in those days during a period when i actually listened to something other then dance music, this album & that david bowie "outside" were my favs.

i will say though that the pet shop boys remix of 'hallo spaceboy' is probably one of the best done remixes of all time out of any genre.

TDS was a pretty big landmark in my life when I got it, and I still listen to it regularly.

I remember getting it right when it came out. I was a big fan of Broken. I used to think that Downward Spiral was so hard core...

I think the music is amazing. It sill sounds incredible. The lyrics don't have the impact they once had, but I think it's cause I'm older.

Love the Downward Spiral. I have a copy of it around my house somewhere.

Favorite track? Mr. Self Destruct & Reptile

I love every track on TDS, but if I had to pick favorites, I'd have to go with Hersey, Ruiner, Closer, and Hurt.

I loved the fact that back then MTV couldn't stop playing this video.

I never seemed to get tired of it.

Back in like 96 or 97 my friend had this on CD and he copied it on to a tape for me. Pretty sure I wore that tape out :emb: Good times.

Make sure you have a player capable of sacd playback though.

The 5.1 mix is pretty awesome.

Awesome album.

I remember blasting this album and Pretty Hate Machine before matches in HS.

Whenever I listen to either from beginning to end, I still get an adrenaline rush and want to rip someone's head off.

I go "deep tracks" on NIN, but Heresy and March of the Pigs are awesome even if they're the "popular" picks.

I went to NINJA a few summers back and he was incredible. Glad I got to see him on his "last" tour. BTW, he got JACKED for that tour.

Shito is no longer interested in this album.

hahahaha

This album fucked me up. I had just came back from living overseas for 5 years, where we only had one English channel and the only types of music we got to listen to were Color Me Badd and other awful shit. When I came back to America, I was so anxious to watch MTV and I remember seeing Nine Inch Nails videos and it blowing my mind (I was 13 at the time, I think). I wasn't aware that music could sound like that. I remember getting my big sister to buy this album for me (lol buy) because I wasn't old enough (double lol). I listened to that album while grinding so many RPGs in the mid 90s.

Fantastic album. Haven't listened to it in a while. Will need to correct that, ASAP.

Pretty much all the early NIN stuff (Pretty Hate Machine, broken EP and Downward Spiral are all 100% awesome. Stuff after that is kinda hit or miss, sadly.

As some are aware, my screen name here originates from the NIN broken EP. In fact my original avatar I used was the cover of the broken EP. The lower case n.

Ha.... same thing with grinding games.

Pretty Hate Machine, Downward Spiral, Broken and the God Lives Underwater album "Empty" were what I listened to when I was working on AvP for Jaguar, Killer Instinct (SNES) and Shadowrun (SNES). Shadowrun is where my avatar comes from, coincidentally.

One of my favorite albums from one of my favorite bands. The first time I heard the album it was one of the most amazing things I ever heard. Within a week or two I bought TDS, Broken, and Pretty Hate Machine. Soon after started to collect singles (for remixes and rare tracks). I have purchases TDS at least three times plus once more for the double disc. My favorite tracks have to be Ruiner, Heresy, and A Warm Place (the remix w/ vocals is interesting by the way(nin.com))

Same here.
In 1994, I had saved up about $100 of my allowance (+ birthday / christmas money), and bought my own portable cd player. My friend recommended TDS because Closer was on the radio at the time. It was the first CD I bought, and the only CD I had for a long time.

Broken is prolly one of the best examples of heavy industrial I have ever heard, too bad he doesn't remaster it. That disc needs BASS

We're old. I can remember this being the bomb in high school.

At least NiN still makes decent music after all these years.

I'm not sure if I think this is still Trent's best album or not. He's made so much awesome shit over the years, that I don't' think I have an answer.

And, oddly enough, I listened to the 5.1 mix last week. Still awesome.

Lastly, who thought the guy that "wants to fuck you like an animal" would turn into an award winning composer?! lol

True! If anything, I like his newer stuff more than his older stuff. PHM is good, but it all sounds the same. Same for Broken. It's only okay at best. Year Zero is much better, IMO.

First, Fact: NIN is not Industrial

Second, I could be wrong, but I'm not sure there is very much (if any) bass guitar on Broken. I think all the bass on that album/ep are synths.

But yeah that would kick ass If that got remastered... and goddamnit throw in a few demos and or unreleased tracks. I was kinda pissed that the remaster of PHM didn't have "maybe just once", "twist", "now I'm nothing" and possibly some other songs or demos I havent heard from that era.

Spike: I agree that Trent's later work is better than is earlier work. But Year Zero has to be by far the WORST nin album. There are only like 4 or 5 good songs on that album, and "Capital G" is possibly the worst nin song ever. Luckily the remix album was much better...than again just my opinion.
