I need some help determining if this Metal Slug is legit.

At first, I thought that it was a boot because of the 2 eproms on the bottom PCB.
But after inspecting it closely, I am not so sure anymore, and I actually think that it's legit.

Here are some facts that make me think that it's legit:
1 - The chip layout is exactly the same as legit Metal Slugs
2 - The soldering is very clean and makes me think that it's from factory
3 - The chips have the correct part names stamped on them

Here are the pictures:

Bootleg.

Just look at M1 & S1 (called 1 & 2) & weird names stamped (MS+chip type) instead of NGM number 201.

Another bootleg of Metal Slug as example :

It's a boot. On your top board, one of the jumpers is briged by a huge-ass blob of solder. SNK always uses a component there (although it's tiny as allfuck so I don't know what it is)

At least its clean looking on the boards, for what its worth.Does the cart fully work with no problems? How much did you pay for it?

I just find it weird that the chip layout is exacly the same (usually boots never look like the original) and the soldering looks like factory...

Could it be a SNK prototype?

It's a boot, but the boards themselves are made by SNK. Just not the chips.
You see that with a lot of boots -- they'll take a cheap-ass game, burn new roms, and sell it for more money. See also: Puzzle Bobble/Bust-A-Move.

Maybe repair work done by SNK?

That's a weird-ass bootleg...

There's obviously hand done solderpoints on the top board where there are no chips :conf: ... and where there ARE chips, the solderpoints look factory-made... odd...

No, I don't think because the rare prototypes (Bang² Busters, Last Odyssey...) use mainly a MVS proto board which uses Flash Memories @C1, C2, P1 & V1 locations &, the other prototypes (like Baseball Stars 2) which don't use Flash Memories have a sticker on each chip with checksum 16 mentionned at the bottom.

For a bootleg its nice and clean and looks built to last, where as most bootlegs look cheap and messy. Your lucky to that effect. If you dont want it trade it or send it back to the seller.

It's awfully clean looking compared to the two boots that I have - it might be a factory repair. Does it work?
