Wild to think that the Slug Anthology was only for the 10th Anniversary.

I had always assumed we'd get a Metal Slug 30th Anniversary Collection in 2026, but lost hope when I saw the AES+ announcement. After this trailer, I guess we're getting both. Sounds great to me.

Artbook and soundtracks for the 25th

Can't find that they did anything for the 15th.

Edit: For the 15th, they might have dropped the price of Metal Slug Touch on iOS to $0.99

Big if true.

Correct me if I’m wrong but i remember back in 2019 on this forum, that snk had a roadmap where we saw the mini, arcade stick and the rumored console/hybrid that would play retro and new games? Is it really the AES +?! Man either way exciting times

You may be thinking of the info from the investor conference in 2019: https://bbs.ruliweb.com/news/read/121126

It was said there would be a Neo Geo 2 & 3, although who knows what was lost in translation.

There is a full website up for the 30th Anniversary

Japanese

English

From among the Google Translated text on the page, "To commemorate the 30th anniversary, we're undertaking various projects as part of our mission , including the development of a new game ! We're going to reignite and reboot the Metal Slug series ! Stay tuned for what's next for Metal Slug!"

Edit: Didn't realize there is an English version of the page, the text there is a little less specific and says, "To celebrate 30 years of Metal Slug action, we're reigniting and rebooting the series with a wide range of exciting projects—including new ventures in gaming!"

It would make complete sense if it was a new sprite based entry in the series to be released on all the major platform and AES+.

One thing for certain, the new owners are going all in recently and they seem to have a good degree of respect (so far) for the hardcore fan base. We will see.

To have a version of X that won't just stop working one day when the altera max decides to explode would be a plus.
I didn't know what you meant so I looked it up just now, and wow, that really sucks. A Plaion re-release of MSX would be pretty great in light of that.

For anyone else who didn't know about it, here is what I found:

The Altera MAX chip is a security component used in Metal Slug X (and some other Neo Geo titles) that protects the game's P1 ROM via a challenge/response mechanism. If this chip fails, the game will not boot, often displaying a "boot to crosshatch" error or a red "angry" message before locking up.

This failure is notorious in Metal Slug X due to manufacturing defects and moisture ingress, with some users suspecting that Altera MAX chips manufactured in the 1999 batch were particularly prone to failure compared to earlier versions. While some argue that poor voltage regulation or date codes (like the "9901" code) are the root cause, others note that working carts exist across various dates, suggesting random defects rather than a single bad batch.

Also, apparently the following games also used that chip:
  • The King of Fighters '97
  • The King of Fighters '98
  • Metal Slug 3
  • Last Blade 2
  • Sengoku 3
Unfortunate as those are all pretty great titles.

I hope I am seeing things that are not there, but that trailer to me hints at a Metal Slug FPS. If that is the case, a potential collection would be the highlight most likely.

I'm not sure if I ever took note of the 20th anniversary. It looks like they gave us an art gallery.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. There’s still plenty of meat on that bone. Now you put in Marco and Tarma, have some Morden soldiers watch, add a lil NTR, a potato. Baby, you've got a stew brewing.
