Well, it's a "younger" Clark working at the Daily Planet, so actually, they are basically recasting his part. They don't mean young Clark on the farm.
I assumed a early or mid 20s Clark probably getting his first job, meeting Lois and Jimmy etc. That's all really safe stuff. Cavill would be 40 or 41 by the time they start shooting. I don't really care what they do, I'm just saying I see why they wouldn't use him for multiple reasons.

I think Gunn is self aware enough not to make Superman a semi-adult comedy with a gimmicky soundtrack. At least I hope so. As far as him running the DCU or whatever I think he'll use a lot of other people and make sure everything has a cohesive but still individual feel. Snyders biggest problem was that everything he did was so incredibly "Snyder". I don't think the goal is to make it so when you think of DC movies you think of James Gunn which is what they did with Snyder. But who fucking knows, I don't have much confidence in anything movie related these day.

I'm not sure that I care about a young superman or Clark. When I think of Clark, it always goes back to Christopher Reeve for me, but I don't know that anyone cares seeing a new version of him trying to do the extracurricular hustle.

I think Gunn is smart enough to strike the right tone for the right characters. I think it's good to frame things for the time it was happening though, snyder had a great world he created, but the general public didn't receive everything up to justice league well. They all compared it to marvel movies with their formulaic stories, gags, and action which did have more levity. It's a big reason why wb went with whedon and made so many changes to make it lighter. The funny thing is, I think more people appreciate zach snyders justice league because it's so much better in comparison to whedon's work.

I'm disappointed that they're not finishing snyders justice league vision, but maybe we'll get better quality content. I'm thinking of the original suicide squad in particular.

Gunn better not fuck with the Constantine sequel with Keanu. I've been waiting close to about 20 years for that shit.

Just give me a good Superman movie for once. As far as I'm concerned the only good solo Superman movie was Superman The Movie. II, III, IV, Returns, and Man of Steel were varying degrees of bad.

no troll, man of steel was good for me. i understand there are things in the movie that are against his canon character, but i felt like that made him more relatable. but, i will admit, some of the stuff was handled in a ham handed way.

I get mos, but what turned me off was these way overpowered, invincible characters fighting each other and destroying the surrounding areas. It was just boring after awhile.

Unpopular opinion, but besides the weird superman son/ stalking lois story tangents, I think superman returns was a pretty good spiritual successor to the Reeve's movies. I feel Brandon Routh is under rated. I thought spacey was entertaining as well.

Cavill nearly salvaged Man of Steel for me. The movie has all the same problems as the rest of the Snyderverse (poorly written, bland, dull color palettes, boring destruction porn, characters acting outside of pre-established lore/saying one thing and doing another, almost comedically dour) but Cavill is so damn likeable that I wanted it to succeed. That said, there's kind of no bringing him back if they want a fresh start.

While I do wonder how James Gunn could ever possibly write something that isn't another sad clown movie (it's his entire catalog), I trust that he and his partner will just be doing the Feige thing of creating the outline and then picking the appropriate writers/directors to create those stories.

Feige's real skill early on was grabbing talented people to write and direct that brought a strong, authorial stamp to those early Marvel movies. Even the people who weren't already household names (like Gunn) were established filmmakers who simply hadn't gotten their opportunity to work with a big budget yet. It's amusingly also one of the reasons the more recent movies have been so bad. He now just hires every non-white-guy that made a mumblecore movie he liked at Sundance, regardless of whether they're a good fit or are even remotely equipped to run a production of that size.

Fewer than you'd think. For example, for all the so-called "fans" who say Superman would never kill Zod and that he'd somehow find another way, comics Superman literally executed THREE (3) Kryptonians who had already been depowered. And most of the other things people complained were out-of-character for Superman had some precedent in comics. The problem is more that Snyder either ignored or misunderstood (my vote) the context behind the actions and only shoved them in because he thought they seemed cool.

But despite that, I like Man of Steel, too. Minus the tornado scene which is ridiculous and indefensible.

Nope. Gunn has said he's writing it himself.

Hadn't read that. That's slightly more concerning. While it's certainly possible the guy has another gear and I like a lot of his movies, he's not the guy to be writing Superman or Wonder Woman. Nihilism and bouncing between pop culture snark and profound sadness doesn't work for every character.

Rebel Without a Cause

Finally got around to watching this movie. It started out strong but the last 20 minutes or so are boring and anti-climatic. I can see why it's a classic though. Good acting and teenage delinquents coupled with the LA backdrop, it just works.

The Cool and the Crazy (1958)

On the subject of delinquents, this silly drug and violence exploitation movie from the 50s had me entertained. Yes, it's super unrealistic in it's portrayal of marijuana use but that just adds to it's charm. The main actor, Scott Marlowe, did a great job. I really enjoyed his acting even with the silliness of the story and dialogue.

---

I'd recommend both but nothing about these movies will blow your mind.

If you haven't seen Giant or East of Eden I recommend both. Both are totally overshadowed by RWAC and are much better.

1988. And it was two dudes and one woman.

Hadn't read that. That's slightly more concerning.
I'm wondering if it might be a test from the new Discovery boss guy. Gunn and his writing partner are laying out a new road map for future DC movies that will presumably run for at least the next decade, but I think Gunn is only under contract for the next 5 years. Maybe the boss wants Gunn to prove he's really the right guy for the job, and successfully handling Superman correctly is how he's supposed to do that.

But the thing I'm really not looking forward to is my growing suspicion based on statements they've made about not having multiple versions of characters across different mediums, that they plan to incorporate the Reeves/Pattinson Batman movies into their new shared universe. Reeves and Pattinson have both said they don't want that, and understand a shared universe would ruin what they're doing. But it may not be up to them.

I had a suspicion it was before most Men of Steel haters were born or could read. I think I was right, sorta.

By the way, we call women “dude” now.

I’ll be interested to see what they do in a new DC universe. I wonder what all this means for Shazam 2?

Speaking of long forgotten shit: is Ezra Miller in jail or an involuntary psychiatric hold yet?

Sure, but it irritates me when fans say a character would never do something they've actually already done at least one time, if not more. Plus, even if this issue came out before someone was born, it still happened after DC rebooted the character, so it does play somewhat into the history of the character younger people would have read. I mean, for Superman fans, I'm not going to blame someone for not having read every Superman comic ever published. I haven't read every Superman comic ever published. But the armchair critics claiming to be experts on the character without even a vague awareness of the different versions of the character to have existed over the decades seem to be everywhere.

yep, i agree, i really liked cavill as superman, but i think this was one of the better snyderverse movies. the stuff that came after were far worse and not even close, imo.

i didn't really have much of an issue with the tornado scene. it was one of the ham handed scenes i was talking about but i could somewhat understand the rationale about not revealing himself to a world that isn't ready for what he represents - which is part of the premise of the movie, clark figuring out his role in this world, how he deals with the irrational prejudice, and becoming accepted. i thought the far greater offender was the school bus scene. clark's dad basically tells him to let the kids die lol. that's far dumber.

First DC superhero. But the Phantom predates Superman. And for comics heroes in general, you have Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, Dick Tracy, a bunch of others that were around before Superman.

Any of these in the Public Domain yet?

I thought I would hate this one but ended up enjoying it quite a bit. Andrew Garfield is actually pretty good in the right roles. This, Under the Silver Lake and Silence prove that he's not just the that guy from the Facebook movie or the worst Spiderman.
