I Know What You Did Last Summer 2025 - Sony really needs to stop making movies, just embarrassingly awful.
I mean, what did you expect?

The first movie in the franchise was a mediocre teen slasher with a strong cast. Every other movie in the series was horrible, even by the standard of unnecessary slasher franchise sequels.

One Battle After Another- eh? I mean, okay I guess? It's fine. It's not best picture. Sinners was also boring as shit but it was better than this. No I don't give a shit about Hamnet.

Nobody 2 - Entertaining sequel with Bob Odenkirk returning as the family man assassin, this time trying, and failing (badly), to get some R&R with the kids and wife.

Doesn't have the charm of the original, but still a good watch. Sharon Stone is wasted though.

Meh. None of the charm as the original. Download it.

Spinal Tap II- Eh, a lot of missed opportunities. It’s not embarrassingly bad or anything, just pretty meh. There’s a lot of ammo for comedy regarding geriatric rock stars and they hardly did anything with it.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles - this wasn't something I grew up with, but the first time I watched it five years ago I loved it (the car rental fuck scene is still delightful, and the gag when they turn into skeletons between the trucks still makes me laugh).

This time around I still enjoyed it but the ending gave me a nagging feeling - John Candy's character is still homeless. Come on in for Thanksgiving dinner, and then what? GTFO and ride the rails like you did before? It seems minor but the resolution is souring me a bit the more I reflect, although overall it is still clearly a classic. What other movies make the viewer feel as frustrated while watching?

As an aside, what with American infrastructure being in the news in recent years, it would be easy for some smartass writer to bring up this movie as an example of American stagnation when it comes to public transport. Everything looks the same as it did 40 years ago, which isn't a bad thing really, but watching scenes of the train going over bridges made me think I bet that route's still open today.

Oh, it is.

You should see how often our trains around the Boston area have some kind of major issue and cause major delays--it's like a weekly thing.

Watched the last Indy and can't remember if it's worse than the Crystal Skull. :-J

It might actually be worse than CS, it’s hard to tell since they’re both so incredibly terrible. DoD is certainly more depressing and feels more corporate checklisty.

CGI Indy aside the beginning was the best of the whole movie. Still pretty terrible.
Liked Phoebe Waller-Bridge in Fleabag ;__;

Starter For 10 - adaptation of the book of the same name, and it's a fair stab at the source material, but the book tells the story better.

Probably more suited to British audiences who will relate more to a lot of the content, this is basically a boy meets girl, falls for a hotter girl, realizes mistake and hooks up with girl at movie end, all wrapped around a failed attempt at winning a quiz show.

Perhaps more notable now for the cast, many of whom have gone on to become very recognizable faces - James McAvoy, Dominic Cooper, James Corden (who fortunately is only in this for a few brief scenes), and Benedict Cumberbatch.

It's alright, but there's dozens of other films who have done this better.

Ringu 2- Unnecessary and overly weird. Though as far as quickly turned out j-horror sequels go it’s not terrible. It’s just that the difference in quality between the top tier and second tier movies in the genre is so big. They’re either half baked cheapo junk or overly convoluted additions that don’t really add anything. This one is the latter. It’s not terrible but it’s just not very engaging despite the atmosphere and general creepiness.

Vampires - James Woods stars in this action-horror as a modern day vampire hunter out to destroy his 600 year-old nemesis.

Directed by John Carpenter, this has some great special effects for a late-90s studio flick, and James Woods is awesome in a genre you don't usually see him in. The ending was a little disappointing, was building up to be something epic, and while it wasn't bad, it could have been a lot better. Maybe ran out of budget?

Picked this up on a whim as part of an Amazon sale on Shout Factory 4Ks, and glad I did; despite its flaws, it's still, very watchable, and perhaps one of Carpenter's better 90s flicks?

Haven't seen it in years. I felt like it came out of the gate super strong, tons of great attitude....then just sort of fizzles as it goes. I remember loving the first act.

Yeah, I know what you mean. You kind of expect a few second act battles, but instead it's just filled with exposition. Then you go into the third act expecting a big finale but get what you get. Still, as I say, entertaining movie - and streets ahead of what Dolph Lundgren passed on Vampires for... Silent Trigger is awful.

Wild Style- While barely a movie in the traditional sense this is an absolutely amazing time capsule of early hip-hop culture and early 80’s New York. Filmed almost documentary style with a few bits of narrative to stitch the scenes together. The acting, story and production value are almost non existent which adds to the realistic feel of the film. Shot mostly the Bronx in 1981 and featuring actual graffiti writers, rappers and DJs instead of actors. The first, most accurate and most influential Hip-Hop movie ever made.

I picked up the Arrow 4k set and it‘s excellent. While the movie is by no means good looking no matter how well it’s remastered it’s worth it for the packaging and extras.

Dog Soldiers - Another action horror, this time with werewolves as the antagonists. Basically, a group of soldiers on a training exercise in rural Scotland get ambushed by a bunch of werewolves and end up cut-off inside a remote cottage where they fight for their survival.

Low budget, but very well made, with a great cast led by the underrated Sean Pertwee and Kevin McKidd (probably better known these days for his stint on Grey's Anatomy). Lots of tension, lots of gore, and a decent twist at the end.

Dog Soldiers is awesome. Neil Marshall was really on a roll with the 3 D’s back to back.

The Descent
Dog Soldiers
Doomsday

Then unfortunately he just kind of shit the bed.
