What is this forum's position on Wes Anderson?

I generally enjoy them, some better than others.

French Dispatch kinda sucked though.
I generally enjoy his stuff. Not so much his stop motion movies though.

I haven't seen French Dispatch, but looking at the trailers I felt like it was a jumbled mess. It depends on what I'm in the mood for, but I kind of find The Darjeeling limited to be a favorite. I feel like not many people dig that one.

Tremors 2: Aftershocks- I remember watching the first couple in the series a lot on weekend afternoons on TBS and USA back in the late 90s and early 00s. Seemed like they were always on. The first movies is great, perfect almost. This one is still enjoyable but definitely a big step down. It was 95 so they hadn't totally jumped the shark with horrible CGI and increasingly insane setting and Graboid variations yet. Still manages to have a lot of goofy charm and shoe string practical effects. There are 7 movies but I don't think I've seen past the one set in the old west. I believe the later ones have Jamie Kennedy in them which probably says it all.

I remember renting Tremors 2 because Fred "Remo Williams" Ward was in it again, and couldn't wait to watch it because I loved the first one so much. It just wasn't there for me. Was it the 3rd one where it was a prequel? I can't remember, but the one that takes place in the 1800s is the last Tremors movie I watched.

That's the 4th one which is actually not too bad. The 3rd one is the where the Graboids can fly by farting...

There's also a TV series that lasted 1 season.

Yeah they fly in three and are called “ass blasters.”

It’s…dumb.

This makes zero sense (well, it should make no sense, at least) if true, because you'd figure they'd be all onboard with a crushing blow against the evils of capitalism by the socialist working class. I guess it kind of shows their hand that they're more worried about the optics of depicting a revolt against entrenched power even if it aligns and is basically in support of their stated goals.

Did you not see? Tyler was rehabilitated and released thanks to the care of the state! He was very sick and is now cured!

Good luck censoring a 22-year-old movie. That's like Beyonce thinking she can remove an unflattering picture from the internet.

Not how that shit works, homie.

And now he can resume contributing to evil and vapid consumerism? At that point, the CCP should just remove the movie entirely. Again, if this is real.

Well yeah, the CCP should just censor the whole movie.

But who knows, double think is crazy.

I don’t think rejecting consumerism is part of the CCP plan anymore (or actual communism for that matter.)

I agree. On one hand I get it because there are 300 gazillion people on that continent, so thats 300 trillion more possible tickets to sell.

But on the other hand - fuck them, if they cant stand the way the world makes their movies, then don't sell to em.

Now consumerism is actually an important part of their plan, they figured out it motivates people while simultaneously distracting them from thinking about what's really going on. You don't notice your neighbor getting disappeared as much when you have a new iPhone.

Scream 5
Wow that was garbage.
It just didn't work.
Some bargain bin writing.
The actors where a mish mash of what the fuck.
The murders where nice and graphic but really, really

dumb

I don't know why I was expecting something decent. Mix of Halloween 2018 and Texas Chainsaw 3D (an amazing film, highly underated, super dumb but superb all the more for it) but in the worst way.

The kids don't care about Scream, you should have made it for us old mucks.

Nothing worse than a film that tries to be clever but the clever bar fell of it's hinges and killed the director. Scream 1 was fresh and funny in all the meta stuff.
This was that, except that it was fuck shit junk

The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood skit was reasonably good. The final throat cut was satisfying. And that's about it

The Tragedy of Macbeth- Worth watching for the sets and cinematography, the cast is and direction are both fantastic as well. Lots of old German expressionist influences. It's straight up Shakespeare though so it's pretty dense and a bit difficult to keep up with if you're not familiar with the original. Highly recommended, if it sounds like something you might enjoy..

The Electrical Life of Luis Wain- This was disappointing, great main and supporting cast held back by schmaltz, and often a heavy dose of manic cuteness. I think it could have been great if it had been taken more seriously. Also some of the editing and direction felt amateurish. It looked pretty good though, some nice surrealist sequences.

Censor- Dirty little horror film about repression. Lady who works as a censor for the British film board during the "video nasty" era has herself a slow descent into madness because of a childhood trauma. It's not great but it's an amusing look back to the dawn of the VHS era of filmmaking and all of the religious nanny-stating (and accompanying media sensationalizing) that came with it.

Some clever film techniques (mucking with aspect ratio and the use of some classic film stock) and the main actress gives a pretty solid performance.

Karloff: The Man Behind the Monster - Cheap little documentary released on Shudder recently about Boris Karloff. Learned a few things I didn't know about the man, his background and his life but the interviews were largely endless fawning and it easily could've been an episode of A&E Biography. Nevertheless, Karloff comes off as a decent, humble man whose indelible performance made the monster far more interesting than it could've been in less capable hands.

Eight Legged Freaks- Part 50's Drive in garbage, part Tremors, tons of crappy CG and Doug E. Doug lol. You can't say it's not self aware. I just wish it had been R rated, there was potential for Piranha 3D level shlock but they played it pretty safe. Oh well it's still a lot of fun. I forgot how hot Kari Wuhrer was.

Creepshow 2- Terrible, none of the charm of the original. Really bad animation on the in-between segments, lame stories, horrible script. Everything is just bad and it's so uninteresting that it's flat out boring.

A minority stake of Legendary Pictures has been sold to an investment group. Only a minority share, but as part of the deal the company's creative and business operations are back in control of the people who ran the show before the Chinese group took over.

This probably also means that Legendary won't be bought anytime soon by Disney, ViacomCBS, Warner/Discovery, NBC/Comcast, Amazon, or Apple. There had been heavy speculation that one of them would try it since 2021 was the most profitable year in Legendary's history (they only released two movies and both were huge hits).
