Necro Pop. Is that a question or a statement to your old man?

"Hey dad, fancy a bit of necro tonight, mum's down the bingo, so we should be ok."

Those indie games shouldn't be for anyone other than 8 year-olds looking to waste their allowance on a Switch download because they're too young to know any better.

Christ, these games are shit. Never thought I'd see shovelwear on the Neo, but hey, here we are.

I'd be totally cool with it if they weren't acting like it's somehow "premium" because of the Neo. But these homebrew devs clearly have dollar signs in their eyes and point them at the French. If Songbird can make totally new Jaguar carts for like $60-80, then $400+ for a Neo cart is just insulting. It's not 1996.

It is hilarious to see all these newcomers suddenly balk at the price of a Neo Geo Cartridge. You mean like the entire library that has always and forever been expensive? Go back to talking about retro games on your Anbernic

Totally, but homebrew?! Come on, man. Released on Steam for $20, they're likely making the bulk of their money between that and Switch. The whole "Neo Geo" thing is a cash grab for these guys, nothing more. I'd be down for $150. Back when the launch library was sitting on shelves in retailers, you could grab a game like Fatal Fury 2 for that. A studio produced, licensed game. The autistic collector's are making it like that sort of price ($400+) should be expected "Because Neo". Dumb. I get the gatekeeping aspect, all good. Still retarded though. Blah blah blah small run though blah blah. Same for those Jag carts.

Game looks great to me and as a noob price is definitely too much. I will be waiting for a rom release.

Same for those Jag carts.

Not the same cart, not the same packaging, not the same content - just not the same altogether.
Plaion managed to bring the price to an incredibly low price point with new tech (it's written in the interview that was posted here somewhere), massive quantities, control over the entire production chain, and games that have been profitable for years. You may not believe it, but the fact is the base material cost we have paid to have our games made physically (before paying ourselves a cent for any work put into it) is already much higher than their retail price.
Things may change in the future thanks to them, but for now they haven't.

I know it's not the same level / product / league, but when we were merely exploring manufacturing options for Sovietborgs, we were amazed at how expensive it still is to produce carts for the Neo. There are super cheap alternatives for, say, the Mega Drive (including shitty quality of course), but unless you want to go with super cheap chinese repro-like carts, this was our experience too (cost was already higher than AES+ retail prices).

I would agree if it was homebrew quality, especially when it's just some clone of a puzzle game.
I similarly agree for Jag carts when they are just Atari ST ports with no upgrades.

In most respects, Neo carts in these cases are a novelty, and you are paying for the novelty.

I get it. But I'm sorry, I just don't buy that Neo carts don't get their margin padded because of the fact they're "Neo Geo". Jussayin'

I'll give them credit for the quality of the graphics and not just being another Mega Drive port, but the game itself looks kinda lame.

Realistically what's the problem with releasing homebrew on (reportedly reprogrammable) chinese cart hardware, aside from a lot of manufacturers there being cheats? Especially MVS...
Why does every collectable being sold these days have to be pristine 'archive' quality, built to last? I know it's mostly goobs who buy this stuff, but you're making homemade games for a dead platform, get over yourselves. The cart isn't going to match the other carts on the collector's shelf anyway. You'd might as well make it poop, and if you can deliver it at half the price, no one will bat an eye. It will open the market to more customers.

For some reason, Neo devs think that they work harder than devs for other platforms and deserve more money for it. The'd rather go out of business on $400 carts than print a batch of CD's and make the rest on digital storefronts for a reasonable price.
