I am in the process of getting an AES system and was wondering if anyone knows if a UK mega drive power adaptor will be ok to use on the system? As I don't have a step down converter?

Always try a +5v PSU first if you don't know what PSU your AES needs and you can't wait to confirm.

What PSU does it say to use on the bottom of your AES?

If it says Neo-Pow-3 or Pro-Pow-E then you can use the +9v PSU. Just make sure it's negative tip.

Just keep in mind that if someone replaced the board inside with a +5v unit you could damage it so the only way of truly knowing is to open it up.

I have a 9V PAL system, and I use a Master System adaptor with it. The guy that sold the AES just said it was a suitable adaptor for it, and it seems all good. It's a fairly big adaptor, so I'm guessing it's from the first model of the Master System.

I thought all PAL systems were the same voltage (9V) but maybe I'm wrong there.
