Ya know what? All those times you've said "retro gaming is a mental illness" I thought it was a bit over the top, but lately with all this AES+ goobery and Youtube nonsense I'm realizing you're on to something.

Who are these sick, sick people? Why do they refuse to move past 1996? Will they ever truly live?
Remember, many of these are the same motherfuckers that didn't know who Terry Bogard was when Sakurai added him to Smash.

It's all irritating and I'm convinced, more than ever, that video game culture online is just a corpo grift designed to keep people forever in an infantile state of arrested development. Even people that weren't 'there' when it was new.

Pure anemoia.

I just sold King of Fighters 95 for Game Boy, King of Fighters EX Neo Blood and King of Fighters EX2 Howling Blood (both for GBA) for $300 on ebay.

Game collecting is a mental illness.

Ok I must admit I haven't cancelled the ultimate pack yet because the cancellation process seems like a pain in the butt to do.

But I at least hope the preorder at Amazon.jp gets delayed so I can cancel my duplicate regular AES+ system at least lol.

Now I know you're all pretty much joking but i'll willingly take the bait and post something "serious" (we're still talking about videogames...).
First of all, who can safely attest to NOT be mentally ill in some way? Surely not me, neither a good 99% of our planet's population, i think.
Everyone has his own little safe places/ comfort zones / guilty pleasures etc and it is what makes us human.

Having said this, I too don't really like Youtube videos where people say "hey i started loving games again thanks to "retrogaming" and so you should try it too by going on this link, buying a crt, buying overprices games in 2026 and so on". On the other hand, I, for one experienced a "down" with videogames around 2015-2017. I pretty much only played current gen games and was slowly harboring feelings of disaffection to videogames because I was unconsciously "forcing" myself to play only current gen games. Having never sold my systems, I decided to play them again during those years and I realized "hey it is not that I don't like games anymore, I just don't like current games" and to this day I spent most of my game time on fightcade (3s, kof98, motw) or on arcade emulation / console emulation / real old hw and I am really glad for every minute that I play.
Sometimes when I only have 15-20 minutes I'll just do a quick no miss Time Gal (ld) run or a few good overall times on Sega Rally (sat) and I feel a lot better.

Just to add another useless paragraph to an already useless post , a few weeks ago I ran into an old friend of mine, life pretty much happened and we never contacted each other for pretty much 23 years. Ok so he was always at my house back then, or my "sidekick" in the arcades and we enjoyed a bunch of games together, we studied Japanese together by ourselves so he remembered he had some old Japanese books and asked if I was interested in them as his wife wanted to pretty much him to throw them away. I said bring those guys here and I'll take good care of them (we learned a lot of kanji on those books so I enjoy reading them again for the memories). He came to my home and was surprised to see so much real hardware, crts and such. He had a spark in his eyes , as if he was going back in time in that very moment. I remembered he was a Virtua Cop 2 nut and promptly said "hey, want to have a go at VC2 on Saturn?" he is a professor nowadays (i'm a useless person, at least one of us did something good with his life i guess) and suddenly he was bloody giggling "can i? can we? I mean is it a bother for you???". I quickly took from storage one of the official Sat jp guns and the dude was GONE back in time. He played for an hour until his wife called him (we live close so he probably said i'll be back in a few minutes). He said we were catching up after all this time and he ended up staying for dinner and we played a lot of other games. He became so fixated on Virtua Cop 2 and ...Flip Out for the Atari Jaguar (don't ask me why) so much that he wanted to find a crt a saturn, a gun, vc2, a jaguar and flip out. I encouraged him to first start with emulation and slowly go from there. He is currently emulating and rediscovering his love for games. He now comes by my house every 3 or 4 days just to play something he is curious about, talk about games.

All this useless junk to say that...i think we all are "mentally ill" , some just forget that they are until they remember what was that made them have fun.
Now i expect "sweaty" reactions and such, have a go at my butt guys , my bad for exposing my cheeks

jfc a few extra ASIC chips…
yeah, but wasn't the Atomiswave a 5 button system? The joystick would need to be modified to have 5 buttons.
The games would have to be able to run through the same slot as the AES/MVS games use. And there would the question of whether to add home system features to the games.

Plaion ES are definitely just trying to generate engagement with these posts. I wouldn’t take most of them seriously.

Yeah, because the joystick is the main issue. So tired of these absurd speculation posts.

I've been saying this pages ago, people are going to be mad when the Neo Geo AES+ turns out to be a Neo Geo AES+
Saw some dumb post on reddit where someone was saying they should put other chips in it, cause the + should mean more. Now I know why I avoid that site

If you think everyone is mentally ill... you're probably the mentally ill one.
