Not interested in getting another homecart system, it's all about the games for me. The reissues, man, Slug Slug Slug and Shoooooock Trooopers, etc., you know, all the good shit for prices that seem to be completely unreal for ppl like us who were used to shelling out big time for that sorta stuff.

This is big, man, at least for me, and I think I can safely say for a lot of people who never let the flame go out over all the decades.

The Slug I will be getting feels like a little thank you for all that, you know. An official, non-Alibaba and the 40 thieves, non-NCI, non-some faceless god-forsaken cart-sackin' conv grubbyfinger reissue for me to play on me ol' homecart Apparat. That's just so cool I dunno what to say.

I feel there is something big lurking on the horizon, in one way or another.

I think everyone is excited about this because its finally something decent after two decades of disappointment and low expectations. Aside from reissuing games affordably there's really not that much to it for must of us, but everything's all too fun to pass along lol.

One thing I haven't seen being discussed much is the obvious implication for the eternally cheap games like Samsho. With all the renewed interest on the AES I don't think they're going to stay cheap for long...

I get this 100% and could very well see myself picking a random cart or two in the future because of it

Especially in the first few months of the AES+ release, I’m also expecting the prices of the cheapo carts to raise somehow. But at the same time I do not think the average AES+ new audience is any interested in getting Sam Sho or AOF2 for $300 a pop, so these attempt to inflate prices might just fail fast.

This is it. Expectations were low after Neo Geo X and the Neo Geo mini.

Oh btw long thread but Terry did mention the common cheap games won’t stay cheap now - that’s inevitable as the next step for new AES+ owners is to expand their library beyond the 10 games already released.

No more SS2 50 dolla shipped… maybe 100 dolla…

I think people will hold off buying OG Carts in case there is a release of an AES+ version. Obscure & unlikely carts may go up in price. I for one won’t be buying anymore AES at current prices until I see what happens..
Yes, that is what I will do. If Plaion releases more games I want, great. If not, I can play them other ways.

Of course, if people wanna start selling original AES carts for $90... :-P

The originals are basically antiques.

And there's validity to that - a lot of the appeal of the AES+ owes much to the experience set by the original release, but the originals will still be the trail blazers.

I don't think any other platform (or generation of arcade hardware) ever defined itself AND it's games like the neo geo did ... or even tried to!

Great spot ahahah I just hope that’s due to these pics being mockups/renders…or maybe each cart stores the original soundtrack in WAV uncompressed format 💀
You might as well fill it with random bytes and an uncompressed wav is about as much use on the system.

That’s the thing though; Art of Fighting 1/2, Fatal Fury 2, Samurai Spirts 1/2, King of Fighters ‘94, Super Skidmarks 1/2 (:keke:) and some others can be picked up currently for $90 or less on AES on original cartridges.

For now.

Judging by the first 10 titles I don't think we will be seeing too many early titles for a while. So far they've got magician lord and ... Over top... So maybe they continue this trend where they include a couple oldies and then fill the rest up with more popular titles.

I wonder how they will release games going forward. My guess is they will drop 3 at a time over a couple of months.

Probably hype the fuck out of them like a DLC character, slowly draining our goobforce to keep the saud family alive.

There’s no way they are going to stop with just one Metal Slug rerelease.

Given the choice of titles they made for this first batch, it looks like focus might be on:

1) Major Hits / High Value titles (MS, MOTW)
2) Partially exclusive content (BTG, Shock Troopers)
3) Fillers (Over Top)

If they continue like that in the future (depending on whether or not this is a one off), I would personally be more than fine. Regardless if they choose to include the occasional Over Top filler.
