Dear God, why?As far as I remember, 8man bought 8 NEO GEO X systems.
Dear God, why?As far as I remember, 8man bought 8 NEO GEO X systems.
Another Jotego interview.
*Barfing gif*For those who want the skim the auto-summary:
Introduction and Project Background (0:00 - 3:13):
Technical Development and Quality (3:13 - 5:30):
- The host introduces the excitement surrounding the launch of the new Neo Geo AES+ by SNK and Playon.
- Jotego explains his background in microelectronics and his significant contributions to the MiSTer FPGAproject, where he developed over 70 cores for arcade and console games.
- He reveals that Playon contacted him to consult on the AES+ project due to his existing work on the Neo Geocore and his technical expertise.
Key Features and Comparisons (5:30 - 11:00):
- Jotego notes that SNK required high-quality standards. He collaborated with Furte, an expert who performed reverse engineering on the original Neo Geo chips.
- He asserts that the AES+ is essentially a "better" version of the original because it uses modern, reliable electronics while maintaining perfect compatibility with original hardware, joysticks, and software (5:01).
Game Cartridges and Future Outlook (11:00 - 14:46):
- Reliability: The console is newly manufactured, avoiding the common failures associated with aging vintage electronics (5:51).
- Connectivity: The machine includes both the original video output and modern HDMI support (6:24).
- Visuals & Audio: It uses the original digital-to-analog converter (DAC) circuit for accurate color, and the audio is designed to be faithful to the original, intentionally omitting the interpolator used in the MiSTer version to preserve the authentic sound (6:43-9:42).
- Input Lag: Because the controller signals connect directly to the chips, there is virtually zero input lag, matching the original console experience (9:43-10:59).
Conclusion (14:46 - 16:38):
- Regarding the price of the games, Jotego explains they use high-quality flash memory chips, which are currently expensive to produce in lower quantities (11:22).
- He speculates that while Nintendo might not follow this route, other companies or Playon could potentially replicate the success with systems like the Sega Mega Drive in the future (12:52).
- They discuss the terminology, with Jotego agreeing that while it is technically a "replica," it functions like a new model revision (e.g., Mega Drive 1 to Mega Drive 2), maintaining the original casing but updating the internal board architecture (14:18).
Yeah I figured his answer to that question was going to be controversial to say the least. Interesting that he likens it to another hardware variant similar to a model 2 sega genesis/megadrive or one of the many revisions of the playstation consoles.Brb gonna iron out all the faults in the Porsche 911 then post about it on a classic 911 forum telling them why it's better in every way
Sad, but no surprise. The original hardware designers are long gone, and they no longer have any need.It was a bit sad when during the interview he mentioned SNK support was basically zero since there was no knowledge base left in the company (paraphrasing).
Yeah, if the Genesis model 2 came out 36 years after the first one.Indeed, I missed the part in which he mentions that this is a Neo Geo model 2. That’s not the case in my opinion. That’s a re release from a third party company.
Also, recreated by reverse engineering every single aspect. It is not bad per sé, but cannot be called NG Model 2 ffs Jotego bro slow down man.

yeah because the french and spanish are doing itIt was a bit sad when during the interview he mentioned SNK support was basically zero since there was no knowledge base left in the company (paraphrasing).

Doesn't mean to say it's not any good, nor does it mean that it's inferior to the original. It's not the original though is it
Considering the response to the aes+ and the success of clone handhelds in recent years, an NGPC revival would probably do even better if they could reproduce the micro switch sticks. So from that video if it's not Nintendo or SEGA....I mean there's the PC Engine. I said SEGA could theoretically do a new genesis, but honestly there's no real incentive for them to do so. NGPC would be double dipping so I don't see that either. Unless they're making like, a new MSX or something.

I’m still surprised there was no special neogeo pocket-style stick joycon to accompany the ngpc collection that hit the nintendo switch a while back.
People got wind of all my inserts in that collection.Well, you guys missed your chance, while you were arguing over the authenticity of the AES+ your chance to obtain an actual real, quality, MVS collection went up from 25k to $36k now, lol.
