IIRC the NGCD had a decent amount of expensive RAM to load from CD, but even that wasn't nearly enough to load the bigger games without some long wait times between fight rounds or levels.
The large amount of RAM was the reason it took so long. It takes a long time to fill that much RAM off a CD at 1X read speed.

Buying my used Neo Geo for $230 in late 1996 wasn't too difficult with my part time fast food job, but I ended up going to NGCD instead and mostly buying games for that because I could only afford the very early cartridges.

How old are you? I was 12 in ‘96.

Neo Geo was all but dead by the time i could afford it.

The first time I got an AES, you could get US versions of "common" games in great shape with box & instructions on ebay for $19.99.

I suppose i should have said “by the time i realized it was something i could own.”

I was spurred to get in to MVS after the Neo Geo cab at the local movie theater disappeared.

It's like some motherfuckers are so overexcited for the AES+ they feel the urge to talk about it constantly, even when they can't really think of anything interesting to say.

For some reason twitter has been showing me a lot of extremely angry AES+ euros arguing about shit, but you never find who they're arguing against, so their posts are basically this

invisible-air.gif

bottom line: they all better calm the fuck down, lol.

There's a reason for that, you might be able to tell from the way this guy worded his sale what that is

Christ. This dudes been spamming the Neo groups with all kinds of dumbasses speculation, "knowing that SSRPG can be done with enough money and source code" for the AES+, and then this.

Also chances this person will ever get any other game they want to buy without some degree of light damage is close to zero anyways. Forever lol at people stressing over these cosmetic imperfections.

the subreddit is killing me too. Speculating on the types of chips being used for the longevity of the + carts...

For some reason i thought you were younger than me by a few years.

I was 18 when i got my MVS stuff a month or so after joining this forum on Xmas Day 2002 lol.
I can't imagine doing my old web site or knowing much about the Neo back in the 90's if I were that young.

I decided to get the regular one for nostalgic sake and SSVS. Hopefully the next wave might have Shodown 1 or 2 in it
Hey Lee, do you still make the G-mantle banners? Lost mine when I moved a while back :(
