I think the history of a video game series is pretty fascinating but it needs to go deeper than just 'this game came out and then this was the next game that came out and this guy got fired and then this guy took over and then this game came out as the company made decisions to change the direction of the franchise.'

I watched this really great retrospective on the development cycle of Castlevania where they quoted the director of the first game explaining why the game felt sluggish and slow to respond. Or reading Hidetaka Miyazaki interviews in the backs of the Dark Souls art books where they talk about their influences and the themes of the games. He explained why Gwynevere had such massive tits in the first one and said that he gave the artist some ideas about what he wanted and the artist overdid it. He basically said 'It went a little too far but he seemed to be having so much fun with it that I couldn't say no.'

I think those little anecdotes are interesting. It's inside baseball and tells me about the development cycle and the intentions behind the games being made.
I feel like most youtubers barely know wtf they're talking but have to keep making content. You can tell when someone knows his shit by their enthusiasm and the depth of information...

Alec & brother's channel is a gem because he knows and is passionate about what he talks about. Two thumbs up for basement brothers.

I've only watched a couple of the autism brothers videos, there's definitely more effort and research put in. Quite why I'm unsure because it's not paying the bills but hey - some people don't have other hobbies apart from playing terrible old games still I guess

If I want to know what a 30-40 year old video game is like I'll fire up an emulator.

It’s marginally helpful to look at a game video on youtube before getting or checking out t3h rom, or buying a goobie copy on egay. But no commentary videos are fine (and often preferable) for that purpose.

I enjoy those types of videos the most, where they talk about the development and whatnot of said game. It shows they actually put effort into the vid.

DSP, I remember when that rage quiting little bitch used to think he was good at Street Fighter, oh the fun times back then and the profanity laced, raging outbursts from scrubs like him.
e celeb culture is a truly bizarre phenomenon to me but I guess I'm not really the target audience.

I used to be super annoyed by Pewdepie but in recently years, he got married, had a kid, moved to Japan, got in shape and left the scene.

I personally think that he was a pioneer in this field that I just don't understand. Early victim of attempted cancellation after attempted cancellation. Early on having to deal with sponsorships and monetization and effectively forging the model for the independent video game content creator. I think he would have a bunch of really fascinating stories to tell about his experiences if he ever wanted to dish about it.

I think that would be way more interesting than screaming about whatever horror game he happens to be playing on any given day.
