I'm with you then, the cab is the only way to go imo. But, for the cheapest real NG experience, CMVS trumps AES imo. But I'd never compare the CMVS to the arcade.

BTW, are Gamestop and Best Buy selling these with the Ninja Master's card? They are using that image, but they don't mention the card in the bundle. I was under the impression that the Ninja Master's only came with the pre-release orders.

I've got one of these ordered. i'll be playing it on a Sony trinitron 4:3 crt tv. I've heard alot about picture quality on modern tv's but has anyone got an idea of what it will be like on the tv i'll be using?

According to the post by NG Dev Team, until they fix the aspect ratio, it's going to look bad on everything. The good news is, that's a software update fix. Now, does anyone know if Tommo knows this? Haha.

For me, the signal is weak, dark, and has too much red in it. That's trying it both on a PVM and a Sharp 32" CRT. The HDMI actually looks better but I get input lag on that.

Since the HDMI to component converter didn't work with my TV, I was thinking about using a HDMI to S-video converter like this one. Not as ideal, but it would almost certainly work.

Thoughts?

All this talk of who likes what on which setup, MVS>CMVS+CD-AES=x unless the hypotenuse of y is greater then the sum of J?

all that aside lets not forget here, playing classic Neo-Geo Arcade games on a big beautiful handheld like the NGX is an incredible experience!:smirk:

I just switched TV's. Took it off the LG LCD and put it on a CRT. It still looks bad, but not as bad as composite on the LCD. Actually, the HDMI looks much better on the LCD than the AV on the CRT, but I'll probably keep it on the CRT since it's in my bedroom.

I have the real AES upstairs in my mancave. This X really proves how an actual AES or MVS just can't be replaced. I'll keep mine as a fun tinker toy for my bedroom, but I'm very disappointed in the video out. It actually makes me want to invest more in my AES and start rebuilding my collection again. I only have about 30 carts.

As for version, volume, etc.....mine is a 370. I guess my volume is no louder or quieter than anyone else's. I just didn't notice it until others started talking about it.

Try to play League Bowling with HDMI out... the lag is horrendous.

Since it seems that the video output is software or firmware related, hope that is resolved on future updates or my third party support from the comunity.

To be honest i see a bright future for this "toy"

Really? What makes you think that?

Not saying that it isn't, just wondering how we know that the poor output can be fixed by updates.

A consolized MVS is still kind of dumb in my mind. These games were made to be played in an arcade machine. Save the money you would have used on a Neo Geo X and buy yourself an actual arcade cabinet. With some shopping you can find one cheap. I bought my Neo MVS candy for $250 and that included the four slot inside. I got my first Neo Geo standup arcade machine, a converted Xybots cabinet, for free with a two slot and a couple games thrown in just because people wanted to get rid of it. Honestly, the idea of playing MVS on a TV is novel, but it ruins the entire experience if you ask me. That's the main reason I never bought a home system. These games are fun, and some of them are good, but once you turn it into yet another game system it sort of loses some of its magic. Having the arcade machine in the house, garage or basement... It makes games like Burning Fight seem cool as shit.

Yeeeeah. $250 on a candy cabinet is pretty much rare as shit. You usually expect to spend $500, and not everyone lives in CA where they're exported to, so it's another $500 to have to freighted across the country. I agree that the best experience for an MVS is on a cabinet, specifically for me the candies because they're comfortable and had better monitors. But not everyone has space for cabinets, in any room, so it isn't always possible. I got all my cabinets when I still lived with my parents, and I'm lucky enough to have a few friends willing to lug them all up to a third floor apartment.
I had an AES briefly, until I saw how expensive the good games were, I quickly sold the system and got an Astro City. The next best thing when you don't have space for these things is to get the best video quality you can and play it on your television. Whether with joystick controllers, or with those massive ones I see around that are a complete arcade control panel. I'd love to have one of those, sometimes individual controllers tend to move around.
More people should take the time to learn how to solder. You can build your own CMVS in a day and enjoy the hell out of it. But I'd say your best going with a CGA to VGA converter at this point. Seems like new televisions are really random about what inputs they decide to still include on them. Component is hard enough to find for some reason, but at least they all seem to still have VGA. Means I have two Neobitz I can't use anymore.

Eh? Component is easy to find. VGA seems random. Hell, I have component on my plasma and no VGA.

Tell you what is best though, having a standard def TV with component inputs. My 32" Sharp has that. You plug component into standard def (or EDTV) and it's absolutely jaw dropping.

I'll buy a neobitz off of ya. I need one. Hit me up pm.

Last time I went shopping for a television, it seemed like there were only a few models with component. Pissed me off cause I had my Wii and PS2 with component cables. VGA seems like it's fairly common cause they think everyone is running it for a computer monitor for some reason. The last CRT I bought had S-video and component. It was pretty awesome for how little I paid for the television new. But my thing was that I didn't want to jump into HDTVs until something happened to my perfectly working CRT. But of course, I dropped it while moving it from one room to another, and I had to make the leap to HD.

I just said that based on other user's comments :P saying that if somethings are optimized, it could improve the image quality

If they got a clean picture through the HDMI, I would have been satisfied enough to not complain about anything else. I'd not asking for the impossible when playing old games on a new TV, I just want an accurate and clean picture. I can't stand filters, playing with the pixels is part of the reason you're revisiting the games. There isn't even a filter, it's just garbage.

It's probably component over vga then like my projector is.

I was just at newegg and looked at about 20 different sets. I could not find a single one that didn't have component in.

Wish it was like that when I was shopping. But that was also with local chains, I didn't want to deal with shipping something like a TV. I have bad lock with large items being shipped. Both my cabinets had damage I had to work on after getting them.

@Nerdy
It seems like it's really in the air about what kind of TV you're using. I didn't see any of the tearing and everything some had. I just had absurd color bleeding and a shit ton of blur on the characters. My TV handled the motion and everything fine.

Yeah I'd love to get a cab, but have very limited space right now; so that's really not an option. Once I have the space I'd seriously consider it for the "full" experience. It sounds silly, but I really love the idea of having the original console with box and all. It's just then I'm locked in to buying the pricey games, and even though the games for the CMVS are less some of the systems go for some good money, so could just get an AES, but...I'm torn, gotta do some deep thinking. I saw this on the bay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Consolized-...848?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3ccce6f130

Looks pretty sweet! Has some nice extras, looks clean. Might just start with a CMVS, then when I have the money just buy an AES, prob a cab too, what the hell. That's been the good thing about the X, really got me into Neo-Geo again. I'll browse the forums and do some research. Truly appreciate all the feedback!

In the meantime since this is the X thread, hope most are enjoying theirs. I'm a little jealous.

Screen quality looks great on this little guy. Honestly, after switching to MVS it's hard to play these games on a regular TV again, so I'll wait for the less expensive regular handheld that's due out in February.
