Strange New Worlds and to a less extent Lower Decks are the saving Star Trek as franchise. Of course they canceled LD and Paramount appears full steam ahead on the boneheaded 31st century Trek, so we’ll see.

I think Strange New World proves that Trek is at its best in an episodic format.

I wonder if they still accept scripts unsolicited like they did in the TNG days?
Cancelling Lower Decks is so ridiculous. I hope they change their mind on that, but I'm not holding my breath. Ditto for Prodigy which is also much better than it has any right to be.

Strange New Worlds is just freaking awesome, and it's even better than previous series where it's an episodic format, but it doesn't suffer from "reset" button syndrome. What happens in the episodes have consequences and effects that matter in future episodes much more than in others like TOS, TNG, etc.

Enterprise is a great series, especially seasons 3 and 4. Season 3 is one of the best seasons of TV ever made and I'll die on that hill.

Discovery seasons 1 and 2 are also great, especially 2. 3 is uneven, 4 is blech, 5 is good.

TAS doesn't even really count, no more than the SW Holiday Special does.

Voyager is fine with some very good high points.

The only really bad movies are 5 and Insurrection.

So, no, most of Star Trek definitely doesn't suck.
Enterprise is fucking horrible. All four seasons are trash so go ahead and die on that hill if you want.
Discovery is fucking horrible.
Voyager is fucking horrible.
TAS is fucking horrible.
Star Trek 1, 5, Generations, Insurrection, Nemesis, JJ Trek 1, Into Darkness, and Beyond are all fucking horrible.
Star Trek IV is vastly overrated and borderline awful

I'm sorry you hate things that are good and rightfully enjoyed by many.

Star Trek 1 Directors Cut is fantastic. Generations is fine. Nemesis is fine but could have been a lot better if many of the cut scenes were still there. Trek '09 was very good. Into Darkness irks the fuck out of me, but it's mostly a good movie if you're not a Trek nerd bound to the lore. Beyond is the best of the JJ movies and I love it a lot.

Calling Star Trek 4 vastly overrated and borderline awful is, frankly, just sad, wrong, and reeks of contrarianism.

Oooh, ya had me up until this. Beyond is deffo trash. And I'm a fan of JJ Treks 1 and 2. Are they Undiscovered Country good? Nah. But fun popcorn movies. But Beyond pretty much put a nail in that space coffin.

Enterprise is... watchable. I wouldn't say it's great. The whole time war thing was interesting and a bummer they couldn't finish it. I will say that Bakula's Captain Archer is right up there in badassery with Picard. No arguments, its truth. If you disagree you are wrong. Not as memorable as Sam Beckett, but still, Bakula classic.

But the show itself leaves a lot to be desired. Tucker was annoying, T'Pol was (im sorry here but) NOT that hot. The Doc was OK, but the rest of the show was meh.

Discovery is absolutely forgettable bantha poodoo. As Ive said several times, the only good thing Discovery did was SNW and Saru. Thats it. There is nothing redeemable about that shit show.

Voyager - ugh. I liked it as a kid before it moved to UPN because I didn't have cable. So when season... 4? ended, (the one where they meet the borg and ask for help) it just *never* came back. I was like wtf where is Voyager? I didn't know until several years later that it moved from wherever it was (ABC?) to UPN. Years later I rented the series from Netflix (on DVD? 'member?) and watched to the end. It was awful lol. Better than Discovery, for sure. But awful.

Deep Space 9 - I mention this only because its there. Im sorry, I know Im probably in a very large minority lol but I absolutely loathe DS9. It was boring, and I have tried several times (seriously like 5 times) to try to get through it and I just give up before the whole Founders thing happens. Its just so terrible. I wont argue with those who lick its nethers and love it because its like asking a Jewish person to accept Jesus was the Messiah. Ain't gon' change any minds. But uh... DS9 sucks. Sorry.

Never seen the Animated series, honestly.

What about Beyond didn't you like? The story is great, the action is great, the characters are great, the writing is solid, and it's the closest to a "Trek" JJ movie of the three.

To be honest, Ive only watched it once, so I can admit maybe Im not 100% accurate lol but I know I walked out of the theater thinking "Shit man even with Idris, this sucked."

Saying Star Trek: TMP is horrible is wild.

It’s not the best film but it isn’t horrible by any means. I also think it’s a cool product of the time, finding a descendant of a (then irl) recently launched probe. It’s almost a love letter to NASA, frankly.

The part at the beginning with the Klingons is rad.

I hated DS9 during its initial run but grew to love it years later.

Fallen Order was a solid game. Not great but certainly fun and it felt like Star Wars even if some of the Souls-lite mechanics seemed out of place. It did have a couple great moments like Vader appearing and being truly terrifying.

I’ll get around to the sequel someday.

Jedi: Survivor was great fun - one of the few recent-ish games that kept my interest long enough for me to get all trophies/achievements.

I hated most of the Trek series other than TNG while they were on air. Couldnt get enough of them once they were in syndication. They all have flaws, but I'd watch any of them again given the time.

Anyone follow those episode by episode podcasts? Not sure I would get into those or not.

I totally get people that say it's slow, because that's totally accurate, but it's definitely not a bad film.

The Director's Cut really elevates it to what the movie would have and could have been if they weren't on such a time crunch when it first came out. And the new 4K SFX and the Atmos soundtrack....what an incredible experience. It's truly the definitive and only way people can fully enjoy it for what it's intended to be.

All the Berman era Trek shows have a tried and true tradition of needing two seasons before the show gets real good.

I hope this solidifies, in everyone's mind, that fami is not credible when it comes to movie and tv show assessments.

fami: "the acolyte, new star wars trilogy, DC comics shows and movies, and she-hulk is entertaining...but all star trek blows."

I don't even like Star Trek and I know how bonkers those takes are.
Those aren't even uncommon takes.

Most people who actually like Star Trek still only like TOS, TNG, DS9, SNW, Lower Decks, and at most half of the movies.

It's a lunatic fringe that tries to convince anyone to watch Generations or Enterprise.

This is where I am, although I haven't watched SNW or Lower Decks. I've been told Lower Decks is one of the most Star Trek TV shows ever made by some friends that are big time Trekkers.
