Vince McMahon re-appointed himself and two of his cronies to WWE's Board of Directors today.

Technically they could've stopped him from doing so, but as the largest shareholder he could have responded by replacing the entire board. The leverage he used on them was that they can't negotiate a new TV contract without his approval, and he threatened to veto any deals unless they let him return.

He plans to oversee the new TV deal personally and is considering selling the entire company. Saudi Arabia is rumored to be the likely highest bidder but Comcast is also waiting in the wings. Or he could just keep it and continue carnying forever.

I’m surprised he’s still alive, tbh.
The gas he’s done to be on the cover of Muscle & Fitness in his 70s, has wrecked his cardiovascular system.

Jay Briscoe just died in a car accident. One of my favorite wrestlers ever, and was acquainted with him outside of wrestling.

This sucks.

The Briscoes were the greatest tag team of all time, and Jay was definitely the A side. I will entertain no opinions to the contrary.

Just one less reason to watch wrestling. Awful news.

Jay Briscoe in major promotions:
2X Ring of Honor World Champion
13X Ring of Honor World Tag Team Champion
1X Ring of Honor World Six Man Tag Team Champion
1X IWGP Tag Team Champion (NJPW)
2X NEVER Openweight Six Man Tag Team Champion (NJPW)
1X GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion (Pro Wrestling NOAH)
1X Impact Wrestling World Champion
Ring of Honor Hall of Fame class of 2022

Overall: 2X World Champion, 16X World Tag Team Champion, 3X World Trios Champion

Also won innumerable belts across the indies in promotions including GCW, FIP, CZW, House of Glory, NWA Wildside, 2CW, and JAPW among others.

They should honestly just retire the ROH brand. Let Mark win the World Title at the next PPV and close up shop. Tony Khan has already ruined the brand anyway, and it can only get worse without Jay. He was in ROH for pretty much its entire existence and was arguably the best overall performer they ever produced. He could have a great match with any opponent, in any style of match, anywhere in the world and get the entire crowd behind him even when they didn't even speak the same language. And his promos were absolute fire.

38, man. That's just brutal. He had several young children.

Jay Briscoe (Jamin Pugh) is dead at the age of 38.

Briscoe and one other person died in the accident accoring to Delaware state police report. Accoring to the report, the accident occurred in the area of Laurel Road and Little Hill Road around 5:30 p.m.

Accoring to an updated report from the Shore News Beacon, there were four total people in the car. EMS was advising 2 adult fatalities and 2 critical patients being transported for medical care earlier this evening.

More details about the accident have not been made available at the time of this writing.

AEW president Ring of Honor owner Tony Khan confirmed that Jay died in a car accident today on Twitter and offered to support the Briscoe family however he could.

Sadly, Jamin Pugh has passed away. Known to fans as Jay Briscoe, he was a star in ROH for over 20 years, from the first show until today. Jay and his brother Mark dominated ROH, reigning as champions to this day. We’ll do whatever we can to support his family. Rest In Peace Jamin.

Ffs, the guy died being a good Dad. Was taking his girls to Cheer practice. I hope to goodness his Wife wasn’t the other fatality.

This is heartbreaking, and maddening.

*EDIT* his Wife survived, and is well enough to tweet. Latest update:

Utterly heartbreaking. You think of all the messed up and stupid ways wrestlers have died early over the years and one of the craziest of them all is killed just spending time with his family. Not an overdose, not violence, not side effects from steroids, not an in ring accident, not a DUI. Death by being a dad.

Absolutely heart broken over this. The vid of Jay doing a cheer routine w/ his daughter (while wearing her team’s bow on his head) hit harder than any promo he ever cut…and I *love* his promos.

I hugged my kids extra tight last night.
Then I drove them to a school band concert.

It’s terrible what a crap-shoot life is, in spite of our best efforts.

AEW didn’t even give him a 10 Bell.

Fuck Tony for that.
He jobbed the Briscoes out to FTR twice and then didn't even let them get their win back until they had FTR try and fail to win the AEW tag titles. Basically they used the Briscoes to get the Acclaimed over with FTR as the middlemen. Except he was too much of a coward to put the Briscoes on his actual television show because of those awful tweets Jay sent out 10 years ago and apologized a dozen times for since.

He has done nothing but trample on the legacy of ROH since he bought it. Jobbing out all their former champs to that guy who used to be Chris Jericho.

Jay's daughters are both in pretty rough shape.

One has broken bones in her leg, back, and neck but is expected to make a full recovery.

The other has broken bones in her back and neck and lost all feeling below her knees. After a surgery she regained some tingling in her feet but they don't know if she'll ever regain full motor function or be able to walk again. Hoping for the best, obviously.

Positive update on the girls:
On Friday night, some good news came through about the status of the daughters of Jay Briscoe (real name Jamin Pugh) after the car accident that killed him on Tuesday evening. The information was relayed via a Facebook Live stream from two representatives of a local non-profit organization that is working with the Pugh family in navigating the aftermath of the accident.

Gracie, Jay's twelve-year-old daughter, had the more severe spinal injury coming out of the accident, initially having no movement from her waist down and no sensation from her knees down. After surgery, she started to regain sensation on Thursday night in the form of itching and tingling that made the night difficult for her but is promising long-term as a sign of her regaining feeling. Friday morning, she regained feeling in her lower extremities and had an occupational therapy session, also regained some ability to move her legs using her thigh muscles, and was able to get in and out of a wheelchair multiple times. Her pain medications were also switched to oral from intravenous.

Jayleigh, also known as J.J., Jay's nine-year-old daughter, was fitted for a back brace and, while in pain, was able to sit up in her hospital bed as well as move to a wheelchair for about an hour. As of Friday, she still had a feeding tube, but the hope was that it would be able to be removed on Saturday so she could eat normally at that point. She's spent most of the day sleeping while receiving intravenous medications.

MLW got a new TV deal.

Their new show Underground will air on Reelz starting February 7. It's not a huge network but it's in the top 30 of cable channels in overall viewership, compared to MLW's former homes Vice (#77) and BeIN Sports (#131). The new episodes of Underground will be immediately followed by their classic 2003-2005 show Underground TV, where you can see guys like CM Punk, Raven, Satoshi Kojima, Mike Awesome, and Steve Corino among others.

MLW's other show, Fusion, will continue to air on BeIN and on the Pro Wrestling TV streaming service with episodes also coming to Youtube on a delayed basis.

I stopped watching MLW when they started booking Enzo Amore but at least the company is staying afloat.

Watched the needs a new name WrestleKingdom 17: NJPW x Noah show yesterday and I enjoyed it, I had forgotten that Yano spent a lot of times with Jay and Mark as I wasn't prepared for sad Yano during their ten bell. Then earlier today I rewatched the promo they did for the WK10 match against G.O.D. for the tag titles where they shouted out Yano for taking care of them during the tours.

I signed up for Hulu, just to get TBS, just to pop the rating for tonight’s Briscoe/Lethal match.

I hope Warner/Discovery sees the ratings jump, and rues their past decision.

Do your part tonight, brothers!

The Briscoe vs Lethal episode drew 1 million viewers for Dynamite for the first time since early October. Two ROH guys outdrawing the overpaid, overhyped ex-WWE guys they won't stop trotting out there. Obviously it's due to the Jay tragedy, but it only popped a rating because people know who the Briscoes were and cared.
